Anyone know how the game is going tonight? Has young Jake taken to the pitch yet? Anyone know the starting line up?

:)

One of the Associates of my firm is called Darren Baker.

He works in our Plymouth office, though, so I doubt it's him!

Not much help, am I? :dunce:

Eastbourne Borough was probably the toughest game we'll face all pre-season - a few ex albion and a bloody good local team - not some prem premadonnas looking after their ankles - and for the record Darren Baker's played over 500 games for the club and seen them go from the square route of nothing to Dr Martin's Prem - one off the conference and becoming the 2nd best team in Sussex - and ............... but for the grace of Knight THE best

good work over the years Darren, and I bet the Borough gave us the best test in pre season - f***ing good team, brilliant club, onwards and upwards

THERE'S ONLY 2 TEAMS IN SUSSEX

Darren Baker Testimonial. Tuesday 29 July 2003

Eastbourne Borough 1 Brighton & Hove Albion 1
Ramsay 66 pen Beck 10

Attendance: 802

On an unseasonably wet July evening, Borough gave a good account of themselves against a talented Albion side, if not their strongest line-up. Inevitably perhaps, it was the sharper full-time Albion professionals that started the brighter of the two sides, and impressed with their passing and movement off the ball. The Borough defence found itself being stretched from quite early on in the game, and it was no surprise when Albion took an early lead on ten minutes.

That said, it was a cruel goal to concede, although it was an error from Ben Austin that allowed a forward ball to find Albion’s Dan Beck on the left. As Stuart Playford challenged Beck on the edge of the area, the ball cannoned off the Borough defender and looped over the head of Lee Hook into the far corner of the net.

Albion continued to threaten, and on 16 minutes Hook saved well from David Lee after Shaun Wilkinson had crossed from the right. Wilkinson himself went close five minutes later, when hooking past the post with Hook motionless on his goal line.

As the half wore on though, Borough began to get more into the game, and on 23 minutes Ben Roberts was forced to push an effort from Daren Pearce ‘round the post after some good play in the Albion penalty area. On 42 minutes there were Borough appeals for a penalty when Nick Bridle fell on a driven cross from John Westcott and appeared to handle the ball, which then fell to Steve Yates, whose shot was gathered at the second attempt by Roberts.

Early in the second half Borough missed a great opportunity to equalise when Austin found Scott Ramsay with a precision through-ball. Ramsay’s shot was well struck, but Roberts did well to get out smartly and block it with his body. Two minutes later, and Roberts again came to the visitors’ rescue, this time blocking a good effort from Yates, following a nicely weighted pass from Pearce.

Garry Wilson introduced Mark Goodwin and Paul Stark on the hour, and within a minute the latter dived acrobatically to left to hold onto a long range strike from Wilkinson. The game was a lot more even now, and Borough got their reward on 66 minutes: a great cross from Austin narrowly evaded the head of Goodwin, but as the ball fell to Yates in the area, he was brought down by Adam El Abd. Up stepped Ramsay against his old club, and comfortably beat Roberts with a well-struck spot kick.

Stark probably didn’t know too much about a point-blank reflex save from Adam Virgo following an Albion corner on 70 minutes, but eight minutes from time produced an excellent stop to deny Danny Marney. Matt Smart produced the last real effort on goal with a long range strike six minutes from time, but as the final whistle blew it marked the end of a very pleasing work-out for Borough ahead of another interesting friendly at Southern League new boys Burgess Hill on Thursday evening.

There's no stopping old Rambo! Found his level in the end then! ;)

Hope he bangs in another 30 odd next season and see Borough pushing for the Conference - imagine that! :clap2:

Bloody hell!

Scott Ramsay scored.

he got 30 odd goals last season in the Dr Martins and looked a damn sight better than some of the make-weights we've had in recent seasons - he's a better player now, maybe not Div 2 starting team quality, but he put in a lot of very good performances last term and I won't be suprised if he's back in the league soon
