[Albion] "Early" transfer window helps the big boys?

This may be a statement of the bleedin' obvious, but in effect, because of the world cup break we have had a very early transfer window. This means that way more games will be played "post window" than would normally happen.

This has to be a huge advantage to the cash-rich sides that can afford to splash the cash in the window in order to improve their squads. In other words, there will be more games for their new players to have an impact.

Equally the WC break has compressed more games into Jan - May than normal. Again disadvantaging smaller teams with smaller squads. I would imagine as we get to the business end of the season, injuries will take a disproportionate toll on clubs like us.

Yet another example of the petro-dollars skewing what happens in football.

Just as a pedantic point of order, there are no "smaller squads" as all clubs have squads the same size: 25 players. It's the depth of the squad, ie the strength of players 12-25 that makes the difference.

Man City's 12-25 (which changes week on week) would still be strong challengers for a Champions League place. Bournemouth's 12-25 - not so much.

It will help any teams that are able to make improvements in this window, big or otherwise
That's true. I suppose I was thinking the likes of Chelsea, who seem to have bottomless wallets, have more of an advantage.

So let's hope that Uncle Tone does dip into the war chest to add a little depth to thesquad.

to slightly counter the argument- usually there are stupid amounts of games played in the Christmas period, with multiple games in a week but this year we have played just 5 premier league games since Dec 26th, and even including a couple cup games, we have only played one weekend-midweek-weekend sequence, all the rest have had a week between games. This has surely helped less strong squads as injuries and fatigue should be less of an issue

No one in the PL has any right to complain really. Bournemouth spending £20m on a new winger means they've spent as much as the entire La Liga has, and spent twice as much as the entire Serie A.

Sure, Chelseas spending is absurd but no team in the PL has any right to moan about the injustices of the football world.

We don't compete in Serie A though, do we.
