Sven-Goran Eriksson's girlfriend has flown back from Italy to London amid newspaper reports they have temporarily split.
Nancy Dell'Olio is reportedly furious at the claims that he has struck up a "close relationship" with FA secretary Faria Aram.
Friends of the England head coach have strenuously denied that he is having affair or that the split is anything to do with the rumours.
A friend told The Sun: "Sven and Nancy will be having a trial separation, but this has nothing to do with these false allegations.
"Sven is hoping with some time apart they can get some clarity about their future."
An FA source called the claims "100% inaccurate" and said all the parties involved denied the rumours.
And the woman at the centre of the rumours, 38-year-old Aram, also brushed away the "deeply distressing" speculation.
She said: "I can categorically 100% deny any involvement with the England coach."
Lawyer Dell'Olio, 45, and Eriksson have been together for the last six years. Their relationship dates back to the time when he was manager of Italian club Lazio.
But two years ago it emerged that Eriksson had an affair with fellow Swede and TV presenter Ulrika Jonsson.
