Just had this from a reporter at the Doncaster Free Press and a few Donny Rovers fans.

Apparently Donny officially want Brighton to be their first opponents in a friendly at their new stadium, when it is complete next year.

Marvellous Scenes!

We had a thread / poll on here about eight months ago, asking who Brighton want in their first match at Falmer. Something like 64% said Doncaster. A couple of us went on to their messageboard www.yaurs.co.uk and told them as such. They were quite shocked, but pleasantly so. They held their own poll, and basically reciprocated. I understand their new stadium is going to be called 'The Black Bank Stadium'.

What a moniker! Sounds like something out of Blackadder.

Unlike Belle Vue, which almost became "The Black and Charred Stadium"!!!

I very much hope we can do this.

And I'd like to see the Albion players parade a banner saying "Brighton & Hove Albion players salute Rovers Fans"

That would be a wonderful gesture LB ... I still have my photo of the Donny players at the Goldstone ... (dries moist eyes)

What if we were still in the Championship and could get a semi-decent European side. Arsenal would be up for a run-out to the south coast. I think the Doncaster relationship can and has been celebrated in other ways, and that's coming from someone who demonstrated on their behalf up there in 97/8 season.

If Falmer happens, it should be a team that will ensure the ground is full for the first game *cue 'but we'd fill Falmer for Bognor reserves'*

it is called black bank for simillar reasons. the area which is known in doncaster as black bank, gained this name from before anything was on the site apart from lots of gypsies. there was a big scrap yard at the other side of the road. so the gypsies burnt rubber off of the cables causing big clouds of black smoke. then weighed the copper remains in for cash reward. hence the name BLACK (for burning clouds) and BANK (for cash deposits).

This thread is about DONCASTER ROVERS' new ground - not Falmer. They want THEIR first game to game to be against US - which is quite an honour.

i agree. a team like doncaster has not had many glory years and yet they still want brighton there. this is indeed an honour. even if i do say so myself. (born and bred in donny).
