I want to live in a climate where I don't need socks.

Apart from the ongoing problem of holes in socks - does anyone darn socks any more ? - you buy multiple pairs of the same colour to bypass the problem of not finding matching socks only to find they change colour overtime depending on the number of washes and what they are washed with.

If I were a rich man - I would only wear socks once. Mind you if I were a rich man I probably would live somewhere warmer.

Thank-you for your time.

I would like to not be criticised for accidently matching up the wrong pairs, I collect the dirty ones, wash them, hang them out, collect them in, and fold them and put them away....If you want them perfectly matched - then do them yourself!

Michael Jordan wore a new pair of shoes every time he played supposedly - although I thought leather boots took a while to "wear in" - do socks need the same?

Socks are what separates being British from being a savage.

If you discard your socks you might as well go the whole hog, don a loincloth and start swinging from the trees.

Some good points. I think the vest is the final frontier, though. Like Dover, only for undergarments.

Thought you were Australian?

Anyway, it would never work as I have an abiding loathing of flip flops and/or sandals.

I am, but I'm a slightly odd Australian in that I don't like the heat! I love living here as I get the sea (which I miss) and the cold weather - which I love, and of course my other half!

Back to socks......what I want to know is why an even number of socks go into our washing machine, but an odd number come out. Where do they go? Do they hide? Do they get sucked up the water disposal pipe? Does an evil fairy live in the washing machine and eat them? I want to know.

My money is on the evil pixie in the machine.

I try as much as possible NOT to blame the washing machine, but however when I scoop up tha washing from the hamper and lug it downstairs to the machine, I invariably find the odd sock on the stairs or in the bottom of the hamper, or under the bed, and this is the issue with the odd sock..... Its this break for freedom mentality! I wonder if it only happens to people with stinky feet and their socks just can't cope any more?

Blaming the washing machine is a sure fire way for it to go BANG and its more expensive than blaming the socks!!
