This is going to sound really thick to some of you tech types.

I'm looking at getting an iRiver 320 and i've found a place that sells one for 230 quid. It's a "Lite" version which means it doesn't have an external battery, remote control or docking station.

I know what the first 2 do, but can someone remind me what a docking station does? Is it essential?

they are used for charging and connecting to your PC I think

edit:

"Included docking station makes charging and synching easy"

Basically save you plugging in the charger and usb cable you can just drop the unit into the dock and it is connected automatically.

my Rio500 has been on its last legs for over a year so early next year the new "Walkman for walking to the Pub" is gonna be needed:

Aigo E808 256mb - £60, looks alright to me!

(Paid £200 for my Rio back in the day...and it was only 64mb then)

Ideally I need a mobile phone that can hold at least 256mb and be of small size, but I think they are a tad expensive right now! So an el cheapo, small Flash based player it is!
