Do you buy British whenever reasonable and possible?

I usually check the country of origin on most things I buy and always choose a British made product whenever possible even if if costs a little more.

Obviously I always avoid anything made in France.

How about you? Somerset Brie or French  Brie?

We never look at where it's been made... we eat mostly german products... maybe that's got to do with that we live in Germany.

Is Lidl regarded with the same disdain in Germany as it is here?

No it is very popular we had a local one that was very good when we stayed in Berlin.

And to answer the question not really bother, we live in a globalised world

i do try, but its diffcult as we make bugger all. xmas before last in a bored moment i looked through all the origins on the presents everyone had. 90% were "made in china", even things like books from UK publishers.

I've always thought it'd be nice if there was a website which could list categorised items that are manufactured in Britain. So if you were looking for a fridge for example, you could easily discover which ones are made here - even if the manufacturer is a foreign brandname.

It depends on what I am buying. Food yes! I try to support UK Farmers as the rules they have to work to are tougher than other places, which is why is may cost a bit more. A lot of the smaller British companies manufacture some real quality items. I buy a lot of bicycles as my daughter races; Islabikes and Dolan make some fantastic quality bikes. Again they may cost more than bikes from halfords and toysrus but they hold their value and get 80% of purchase price back when sold on.

Thats a problem and one that Tescos and the like use to their advantage unfortunately. When there is only so much to go around each week or month, then sometimes the principles have to go out the window to find what you want with the amount you have.

Depends on the product. I generally look for quality above other things. This is the driver for the purchases I make.

Cheap and cheerful for me. Given the globalization of the world its hard not to so i'm embracing it.

I will however look at what Sussex/local fruit and veg shops have to offer above what Tescos/Sainsburys do. If i'm going to get an Onion for pasta dishes for example, its down the road to the local veg place, not to Sainsburys which is cheaper and only 2 minutes further away.

There was a wonderful Viz type letter the other week in the Mail by an angry customer who felt they had been conned by buying some crisps that had come out in a range of Great British Flavours.

They were disgusted to find the crisps weren't British.

Any idea what the crisps were ?

I find it sad when I see manufacturing companies going down the pan. Company in Peacehaven I know looks to be struggling. These type of jobs are very important for our economy, more important than any job in the finance industry.

If we bought British goods it would keep people in work, simple. The problem is nearly all electronic goods are manufacturered in China as you know. We all enjoy cheaper goods, however I would be happy to pay more if I knew that it was helping our economy and keeping people in work at a decent wage, and also creating some pride in the fact we where at least manufacturing something.

A country is known for the products they manufacturer, not bloody financial products where the beneficiary is the single company. When you manufacturer goods you also involve other companies who supply the parts which creates more jobs.
