Do quite a few Brightons residents think they are better than anyone else?

Is Brighton becoming a self centred place?

Well here goes. My question stems from mostly the comments I have seen on the Argus Website and yesterdays trip Into Brighton. I have noticed quite a few so called Brightonians though seem to have a silver spoon In their mouths. Kinda like a holier than thou attitude. Mostly trying to sound like they are better than everyone else. The upper class mentality. Is It just me being paranoid or Is this really the case?

NOTE. I am not fishing.

I don't think that we're better than anyone else. I just think we are so grateful that we live in an amazing, and IMO, THE coolest town in the UK. Imagine living somewhere like Stoke...

I LOVE Brighton.

I live in London. It'd been good for the five years or so I've been here but I cannot wait to get back to Brighton.

People smile.
The sea.
Brighton & Hove Albion.
The shops/restaurants.
The PEOPLE.

If people from Brighton are smug, I don't blame them. It's the best city in the country in my book.

Exactly. It has nothing to do with feeling we're "upper class" or having "silver spoons" - I'd associate those things more with the wealthy landowners of mid-Sussex. Top class, definitely. And give me a plastic spoon in the Roedean cafe over a silver one a stately home any day of the week.

The thing that turns me off, and I've said it before, is how much Brighton people blow their own trumpet - It's a decent place, but it's not all that, Makes me cringe when I read how it's the coolest, most vibrant, most laid back (definitely not), city ever ever ever... And then people compare it with Barcelona....

Having lived in various parts of the country when contracting, there isnt anywhere else I would want to livin in UK.....but the family kids still think its 'boring'....try living in Stevenage or Basingstoke kiddies...
Think kids in Brighton dont realise how lucky they are sometimes.

Isnt this the case anywhere you go that certain people will still look down on you?

Not really. To me It feels like alot of Brighton has become a hub for a lot of Snobbish Self centred people. BUT don't get me wrong. I know a few decent people from there too.

I love Brighton but I buy into the (wanky at times) culture that goes with it. There's a huge cultural apartheid in this town and nothing is ever done to address the problem.

As someone who grew up in Worthing and now a parent in Brighton, I can also see the benefits of bringing your children up in Worthing or some other place as opposed to Brighton. Bristol or Edinburgh are probably the only other places I'd choose to live in the UK.

In answer to the OPs question, most definitely yes. You get some right bell-ends from Brighton who seem to think that they are better than other people. You even get Brighton fans who give the impression that they are better fans because they come from Brighton rather than another part of Sussex (mention no names but I expect you can guess who I'm talking about).
