Hi,

I was wondering what everyone`s experience is of travelling to the AMEX with a disability? I`ve been getting the train so far, with mixed results. Sometimes it`s been rediculously easy (Peterboro) and other times its just plain rediculous (Liverpool last night was manic on the train). So, am considering other options - bus or car I suppose?

What`s the car parking like? I have been put off by that cos I remember in the dim and distant past the club saying you had to be there something like 90 minutes before the game and then stay 60 minutes after before you can leave. Is that the case?

Any help/suggestions would be appreciate

Cheers guys

Isn't there a minibus from some of the car parks? Or is that just for those who purchased set disabled parking spaces

You wont get parked at the ground as you had to purchase a space pre- season. You can buy a space at the university over the other side of the A27 & there is an accessible bus running between there & the ground. I have been using the train. As you say it was a bit manic but the stewards & railwy staff are great at making sure we get on the train. I know a couple of people who use the P&R but again it is a bit squashed.

I know on the trains going back to Brighton they have a seperate queing line for wheelchairs & they make sure we get on the designated area with the ramps.

I'm currently having chemotherapy so hopefully my disability/mobility issues are temporary.
Despite writing to the club, at Insider's (Paul Camillin's) suggestion, well before the start of the the season; I can't say that I've been impressed by the customer services' response, such as it is.
The only way I found able to get to any game was to buy a Sx University car park permit and then walk from the campus. By the time the club replied to me (4 weeks), all the on-site and Univ car park 5 (nearest to the stadium) spaces had been assigned and the predictable (if you read the planning application) nonsense that is Bennett's Field largely allocated to the 1901 club. Lord B has indeed organised a mini-bus shuttle from CP5 and I may use this in future (if I'm allowed?); however, atm I'm not yet medically fit enough to cope with extensive walking/exercise so don't manage to get to most games at the Amex (ie went last night but Leeds & Palace are no goes).
Frankly, I found travelling to and from Ashton Gate on my own using First Great Western from Guildford a less stressful and exhausting experience than getting to my seat and home from Amex last night (and I had a driver yesterday).
It may be a state of the art facility for some but certainly not for all.

If you can make it from the coach park, the Seagull Travel buses are good.

Credit to the Club for facilitating this service. And ... yes, anyone who needs to use the service can do so - including friends, family and helpers, subject only to space being available on the vehicles. You don't have to be a wheelchair user to benefit from the service.

It leaves from Car Park 5 at Sussex University and drops people off close to the lift that connects the coach park with the stadium concourse. The minibuses run as required from about 2 hours before the game until 15 minutes before kick-off, with return trips back to the car park from about 10 minutes after the final whistle until there's no-one left wanting to use the service. All you have to do to use the service is turn up and get on the minibus.
