From the Argus :-

Yeovil speak out on Slade

Albion boss Russell Slade is today expected to defend himself against an allegation that he was sacked as manager at Yeovil.

Glovers chairman John Fry last night issued a statement via his club’s website claiming Slade’s contract had been terminated after he was found guilty of gross misconduct.

Slade is in contact with the League Managers Association over the matter.

Yeovil admitted they were going against advice from their own legal representatives in commenting on Slade’s departure.

In his statement, Fry said Slade had been subject of an internal disciplinary process and had consistently denied allegations of misconduct.

The Glovers chairman added: “The club believed there were reasonable grounds to conclude that Russell Slade had committed gross misconduct and, based on this belief, the club decided that the position warranted the summary termination of his employment.”

Yeovil have taken two points from seven games since parting company with Slade. They were mauled 5-0 at the hands of their previous boss at Withdean last Saturday.

In a statement made when Slade left Yeovil in February, Fry apologised to fans for not explaining the boss’s departure but said he was keeping quiet for legal reasons.

Fry’s latest statement went online shortly after 7pm yesterday as Albion concentrated on today’s key League One game at Scunthorpe.

I hope he makes them eat their words and open their cheque book. Not wise to go against legal advice on matters of employment law.

Frankly anybody who sacks a manager after four straight wins isn't that smart. I think there should be a name for this sort of sacking of a successful manager. What about 'Knightism' ?

I suppose, given the way things have panned out, that he's under a lot of pressure and has decided that going public is the lesser of two evils. In that respect we're lucky that Wilkins vanished without trace, can you imagine the reaction if he was the manager of someone like Crewe when they beat us 4-0? This place would have gone into meltdown!

We may have sacked a few managers recently but it has been awhile since we had 4 straight wins.

True but I think you could say that Wilkins has had the best results since Peter Taylor took over Micky Adams' old team (with all due respect to Mark McGhee and Steve Coppell).

The thing that gets me is why would any team get rid of somebody who was doing well ? If Wilkins had done something really heinous why was he offered a coaching role here ? Let's face it, like Slade's replacement at Yeovil Wilkins' wasn't much use was he ? I know we can all be brilliant with the benefit of hindsight but frankly Adams should have gone after Christmas as it was clear he'd lost the plot. I think that Slade is a good manager but it's a big ask for him to dig us out of this with so few games to go.

Yes, true. Still who could blame him ? He does sound a lot better than Micky 'What has gone wrong' Adams.

Why do people have to keep harping back to Wilkins every 5 minutes. He has gone, he is now part of the past and if the truth be known DK probably accepts that he/the board made a collosul balls up.

Can't we agree to just drop this matter now?

It probably because a great servant to our club was shit on and because knight seems nothing other than an aggressive bully boy.

Don't start me on this topic because my blood boil even all these month after poor Wilkins carreer was ruined by our egotistical chairman.

Do you really think DK should get away with this then without even one of his PR spins on it?

If you read what I wrote it is to give some context to Slade's treatment by Yeovil. There are some clear parallels between the two managers and their chairmen. For somebody who is an habitual critic of Dick Knight I'm surprised you can't see that.

I fully understand the similaritys but do not think that DK will ever give the reason for the sacking because he is bigger than BHA in his own mind and as a consequence perhaps it will help us to just move on.

DK has always treated the fans with contempt whilst trying to give the impression that he cared about them and considered them.

That's very much your opinion and I doubt that it's shared by many.

Thought I read (maybe on here) it was to do with false expense claims?

Yes but as I said (as have others), if that was the case then why was he still offered a coaching role ?

Anyway, more to the point.......has anyone got any ideas what he got up to ay Yeovil then???:smokin:

That is the point. Reading between the lines it appears that it was bad enough for them to find him guilty (not sure that is the right word for a disciplinary offence but it is the one they used), of gross misconduct.

However I can only think that they either a) did not really have enough proof, or b) came to a compromise agreement. Otherwise why would the legal advice be not to make the comment and more to the point why seek legal advice in the first place?

If either point is true then they could find themselves in court defending either a defamation of character claim, or breach of contract claim.
