Did Leon DIVE on Friday

Personally I think he was clearly trying to win the penalty and even though there may have been MINIMAL contact with the defender Leon went down like the bloke had taken a pop at him with a SHOTGUN from point blank range.

Not blaming him for it, we need to be RUTHLESS of we are going to stay up but saying that he didn't dive is, to me, IDIOTIC and FOOLISH.

from where I was sitting (i.e. right in front) AND on the replay it was a blatent peno. They don't come and more obvious than that.

And I'm usually slagging him off for diving!

The incident happened right in front of my (front row) seat. He'd lost control of the ball, and went down because he stumbled against the defender as he tried to chase after it.

No penalty. But not a dive.

The "goal kick" decision was the correct one.

Preumably the goalkeeper thought that "ungentlemanly conduct" entitled the opposition to a free kick. It doesn't. Although it does get a player booked.

Not that the booking was justified, though, since he didn't dive.

It was a blatant penalty - the replay only confirms this; Thomas took it away from his goalkeeper, went to slide it clear, Knight nipped in front of him and took the ball, Thomas pulled his foot out but caught Knight with his knee and brought him down. No-one dives like that - Leon was just already off balance having stretched to get to the ball. At worst a goal kick, no dive.

Trouble is the refs have got used to knight diving all the time. he is now more than likely not to be given certain penalities because of his reputation. and sometimes he does go down like a sack of shit

I agree with this totally. However, in this instance he was not cheating.

I'm not complaining about his diving, I quite like the fact that he tries to get away with it. I'm just trying to establish whether the majority think that he dived on this occasion and then (AS I HAVE TO AGREE WITH THE MAJORITY) I will adjust my thoguht accordingly.

I think it was a penalty but that it could have been a case of 'the boy who cried wolf' or in this case 'the boy who cried foul'.

Referees are expecting Leon to dive because of his repuation and so when he actually does get fouled they are less likely to believe him.

I dont think he dived in this instance. He was going as fast as he can and even the slightest touch when someone is off balance and at speed would send them flying. The guy clearly kicked him and so he is going to roll/fly a bit due to sheer momentum.

Maybe if he had not dived other times we would have go a penalty. We will never know.

I can't believe there is a debate about whether it was a penalty or not. Having seen it a few times on telly, I am more convinced than ever that it was a blatant penalty. The defender just went straight through him and took his legs away. Crap decisions like that by referees can make or break a clubs future. I honestly believe had we been given that penalty and scored, we would have taken three points. Come the end of the season, we may well need those 3 points to stay up. As it was, we got none. Referees should be brought to task.

Maybe so, but if the ref didn't give it purely because of a perceived reputation for diving, then he should never be in charge of another football match........ever.
