It's impossible to defend properly while standing with your arms behind your back.
Today Veltman let Kane's shot hit him and deflect into our net for the winning goal. Veltman was far enough away from Kane to react and get a better touch. It's a consequence of VAR but it's wrong to expect defenders to have to do this.

I'd accept that sort of thing as a consequence of VAR if VAR itself was doing its job consistently and fairly.

It isn't. The people running it are lining their pockets or unbelievably incompetent, and they need sacking.

It's a perversion of the game, but from a defenders point of view It's a sensible by product of a stupid handball rule. Anyone who plays the game will know it's entirely natural to have your arms up sometimes (for situations, where you've got to, you know, run). It's entirely unnatural to have your hands behind your back, so yes you'll be unbalanced sometimes.

The rule should go back to being based on intention to handle

Bring back the use of hands?

Intention cannot be proven.

So we go back to defenders waving their arms about 'for balance'.

But if we get rid of VAR then it is simplified. 'Penalty'. Or play on. Depending on the whim of the blind referee.

Retro football. With mullets and tight shorts. Mmmmm.

Hang on though......errrr....no.

defenders been doing this far longer than VAR, came in when they startded fiddling with handball rule to include any touch accidental or not.

Agree with you totally, but also know then it will become even more subjective with VAR officials having to decide upon intent, rather than just decide whether it hits the arm or not.Imagine how they could Ness that up!

When all said and done though, I would rather scrap the rule and just leave the handball rule for the Maradona/Henry type handballs. And that's not just because we would have had two more goals today.

I think handball was one thing that referees got right back in the day when they had discretion. Accidental handball or ball to hand was "play on". VAR is supposed to be black and white correct but it clearly isn't working.
