Anyone know what's up with Lopez? Must be on a fair whack but barely gets a sniff of the first team, surely has the pedigree after notching over 100 appearances in La Liga.

Disappointed as I thought he could be another Vicente, seems like Gus hasn't given him a chance to put a run together. Makes me wonder if Gus actually scouts a player before he signs them or just signs players on their reputation.

DL is just 1 of many of Gus's odd signings. He must be 1 of the top earners coming from La Liga. From what i seen from him i have not been impressed so far. Needs some game time, hes just at the wrong club for that

From what I've heard about him it seems to be that he has, historically, been most comfortable playing on the right of a 4-4-2 as a slow, creative midfielder. A bit like Beckham would for United, he wouldn't necessarily be looking to beat his man with pace but be looking to create opportunities for people.

This of course is a system we never play so he may just be a square peg in a round hole.

Also, Buckley is pretty much undroppable

However Lopez can also play CAM and I think he'd excel in that position, remember Vicente went from LW to CAM when he moved from La Liga to us. Also when Lopez came on and played CAM a few months ago he looked ok.

I have been thinking that Gus seems to have signed a few players who individually are brilliant, but just don't fit into our current system. Lopez, Dobbie, Hoskins are the main examples. Dobbie and Hoskins should be in central roles, but unless CMS is injured then they are forced deep or out wide and we don't get the best from them. We really have the squad to play a 4-4-2, but we never get away from 4-3-3

I'm suprised we have not seen him play more in the attacking midfielder role, especially with Vicente, and now Orlandi out. Maybe we will, this weekend?

I wouldn't say that Gus has made many odd signings and he certainly isn't remotely odd. Skillful midfielder who's great at set pieces, taking time to break into the first team for whatever reason.

I'd say the money is probably about the same given the club he came from and his role. He's not at the wrong club for game time at all. He obviously needs to do more in training to impress to break into the first team.

Need him to step up in Orlandi's absence. It's him or Harley.

Just wondering what the obsession about any given player's salary is, and how much it affects the line of thinking about whether they should play or not.

And what about 'Gus hasn't given him a chance'...? Maybe that player need to earn that chance rather than have it given to to him.

EDIT - oh, Tom's covered that.

Vicente, Orlandi, Dobbie, even Crofts similar and fighting for 1 place with Lopez? Not to mention Spaz and Harley..... plus JFC when back.

Bridcutt, Hammond and Dicker share 2 spots, all those above fight over 1?

he has been playing RW when i have seen him play.
Gus prefers Buckley down the right as he is more attack-minded whereas Lopez is more defensive.

Gus loves a defensive winger, note Barnes on the left. This clearly isn't the reason Lopez isn't playing!

Here
I reckon he struggles for game time because he's finding the physicality of the Championship difficult to handle

Adapting to new footballing cultures is not a myth, it actually exists, ask any professional manager.

Gus said not too long ago that some players adapt straight away, but others take weeks or months.

Expect him to be eased into the first team as he proves to Gus he is cut out for pace and physical side of the Championship in training.

Well he leaves at the end of the season so lets hope it doesn't take much longer.

good player whose opportunity will come.

I do wonder why we keep starting these threads slagging off our squad in turn. It seems such a strange preoccupation :nono:
