Soccer: Blues reunion would suit Lee

Former Southend United winger David Lee today revealed he would relish a Roots Hall return after being told he was free to leave Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Basildon born 24-year-old made 52 appearances for Blues during the 2000/01 season and admitted he would love to link up with the coastal club once again.

"I'm pals with both Kev Maher and Lawrie Dudfield and I got them to have a word with the manager Steve Tilson for me because I would definitely be interested in coming back," said the former Tottenham Hotspur trainee.

"I had a good time at Southend when I was there before and I still go down to watch them play whenever I can."

However, despite his desire to comeback to the League Two side, Lee - who quit Blues to join Hull City three years ago - does not expect to re-sign for the Shrimpers.

"Tilly seemed half interested apparently, but said there wasn't much he could do because there wasn't anything left in the budget.

"It's obviously a shame but I guess it was just the wrong time. Maybe in the future something could come up again."

Lee has two months to run on his current Brighton contract, but has been informed by the Championship new boys that the deal will not be renewed after it expires in October.

Think we only offered him a short term contract as cover just in case mcghee couldnt sign anyone..........we have and hopefully getting his sorry arse of the wage bill might mean we can pursue the idea of signing nicolas on a more permanant basis

Wherever he ends up is of no consequence. The fact he's been told he won't get a contract extension is sufficient for now.

He really has been a big disappointment, hasn't he? Several people have said he's naturally talented, so why haven't we seen anything of that talent? Silly boy.

Budget my arse. How embarrassing that even the manager of Southend is only "half" interested in you.

Best keep in training for the next career move Dave.

"Would you like fries with that?"

Soccer: Tilly rules out move for Lee
Southend United manager Steve Tilson has ruled out a Roots Hall return for midfielder David Lee.

The Stanford-le-Hope-based 24-year-old is searching for a new club following Brighton's decision not to renew his short-term contract.

But Tilson today confirmed he would not be making a move for the former Tottenham Hotspur trainee.

"I've got loads of players in that area so I can't bring anyone else in," said the Blues boss.

"I've got Kev Maher, Mark Bentley, Lewis Hunt, Jim Corbett, Che Wilson - plus Jay Smith to come back in too, so it's not really an option right now.

"I'm not looking at bringing any other midfielders in unless someone like Patrick Vieira was available."
