If you have an iPhone there is a really good app called Cyclemeter. Works as a GPS system, records all your times, gives you in ride audio updates on pace, speed & distance etc and sends you an email with all ride info including a map. You can also view the map in the app.

Cardio Trainer - certainly for an HTC phone and probably for iPhone as well. I use it every day and it is very good.

I use Bikehike (www bikehike co uk). It allows you to plot on and offroad routes (you follow a OS map) and then you can save it as a track or a route or whatever your GPS supports. Oh and it's free.

(I'm also a fan of cardiotrainer on my android HTC Hero phone)

I can second this. I started with mapmyride when I first got my iPhone but then switched to the paid version of cyclemeter (can't remember if there is a free version) and don't regret it once. Plus I had a couple of questions, emailed the developers and a day later had detailed answers to all of them - very impressive. You can use it for running, hiking and a number of other activities too. A top app

And that sounds like an advert, which it sort of is, as I love the product! Shame I won't get paid for it...
