It all seems to be kicking off on the near touchline. I can see at least one rasied hand. He's giving the ref no choice.

Handbags?

Not too sure about those flares either...seem a bit heavy duty for a local derby.

The French landed in wales, early 1800's. A mini Invasion occurred with much frivolity and rejoicing.

That depends on what you mean by "we". If you're talking about England, then the last time we were invaded was 1745, when Charles Stuart's army marched as far as Derby, before deciding to return to Scotland to regroup - and then getting their arses kicked at Culloden.

If you're talking an invasion from outside mainlaind Britain, then we were invaded in 1797 when a small force landed in Fishguard in west Wales (as Eggmundo says) and were easily routed - according to legend, they mistook Welsh women wearing red shawls and tall hats for soldiers.

And if you're talking about an invasion of the British isles, then the Channel Islands were occupied by the Nazis in the Second World War.

Which ever one you believe, it's nonsense to say that we were last invaded in 1066 - didn't you pay attention in history at school?

Spot on, Gwylan - give 'em that history lesson they clearly need.

As for last battle on British soil ... depends (as ever) on your definitions. The last battle on the British mainland between British armed forces and an opposing force was at Bossenden Wood, Kent in 1838. There was also one in 1817, at Pentrich in Derbyshire.
