From Wikipedia

Crewe crater on Mars is named after the town of Crewe.
The Limelight, Crewe is the premier live music venue in the area. With three floors, the Annex Bar and the brand new Music Cafe, the Club now boasts a capacity of over 900. The Club has gone from strength to strength and is now entering it's 10th year. From humble beginnings (with mainly tribute bands) the club is now one of the North's top venues and frequently hosts acts such as Rick Wakeman, Ian Hunter, The Hamsters, Vermillion Hair, Elysium and many more.
Last year, an article published on www.chavtowns.co.uk named Crewe as one of the worst and 'chavviest' town's in Britain. This caused a partial uproar with some residents of Crewe, leading to several strongly worded letters being printed in the local newspapers, The Guardian & The Chronicle.

No it wasn't Crewe - it was Widnes, Wilmslow, Wigan or Warrington - somewhere beginning with W up in Cheshire/Lancs.

I might be wrong but there is a plaque on the staion marking this, but pretty sure it ain't Crewe.

Sorry to be so sad & pompous but I was right!

RETURN OF THE PLAQUE
A new plaque commemorating the fact that Simon wrote 'Homeward Bound' at Widnes station has been unveiled...
A new plaque commemorating the spot where PAUL SIMON wrote his classic 'HOMEWARD BOUND' has been unveiled at WIDNES train station in CHESHIRE.

Simon wrote the tune feeling homesick while waiting for a train on the way back to London during a period spent living in England, in the days before he started working with Art Garfunkel.

Several other plaques have been stolen from the station over the years. Simon himself made a plea for the originals to be returned during his most recent tour of the UK.

The new plaque was produced and funded by media students at Warrington Collegiate Institute. "The plaque has returned to its spiritual home," their lecturer Stephen Wainwright said.

:( would have bet you money on it being at Crewe before you posted the info above, so a bit poorer than you could have been if I'd spotted your first post on this thread earlier:D
