George Cox has completed a permanent move to Fortuna Sittard, pending international clearance.

The 22-year-old full-back initially joined the top-flight Dutch club last September on loan.

He made 27 appearances in the Eredivisie and scored his first goal against PEC Zwolle in a 1-1 draw in March, in Fortuna’s last game before the season was curtailed because of the Covid-19 crisis.

Cox played for Albion’s under-23s and in the EFL Trophy before a loan spell with Northampton in 2019.

Technical Director Dan Ashworth said: “George has enjoyed playing for Fortuna, and he and the club were keen to make the move permanent.

“This represents a great opportunity for him; and it is one he has worked very hard to achieve.

“On behalf of everyone at the club, we wish him every success for his future career and I would like thank him for his efforts during his time with us.”

Best of luck to Cox for the rest of his career.

The victory against Norwich has removed most of the uncertainty and we can start progressing on some transfer deals.

Dutch sides are doing their recruiting now - I suspect Jahanbakhsh's transfer is all lined up and just awaiting the final green light.

Falmer, soon...
Always thought he was decent from the reserve games I saw. Good permanent move for him and pleased he's been able to play consistently after injury troubles.

Good move, they have a great history of developing young players: Kevin Hofland, Mark van Bommel, Wilfried Bouma, Patrick Paauwe, Erik Meijer and recently Pehr Schuurs who is De Ligts replacement at Ajax. Who knows, one or two great years at Fortuna and he might be bought back.

To go to a Dutch side he must be quite good technically. Good sideways move that seems to be becoming more common amongst players who possibly sacrifice a bit of money early on by going abroad and developing themselves.

Met a bloke in the park the other morning wearing a Fortuna Sittard shirt. Reckoned young Cox can’t WAIT to make his move to the Netherlands a permanent one. All adds up now.

Did he have a dog with a muzzle called Paauwe?
