The thinking is to maximise you chances of winning the header in the first place and to give you a better chance of playing them offside if there's a second ball.
Personally I think the benefits outweigh the risks though. Dunky's goal would have certainly been cleared
If you have a keeper than likes to come and claim, the the argument for having them goes up a notch
