I judge Coppell's behavior on two counts and agree that I feel disappointed in him.
The first problem I have is that he didn't do the job he was brought in to do, he failed to secure our place in division one and now deserts us when the corner has been turned and we sit on top of division two. The club and fans have supported him when he was down on his luck but he's not supported us. It feels like being dropped from a great height because the uncertainty and learning curve that the search and appointment of a new manager inevitably brings will be on our emotions and not his. One person's actions can f*** it up for everyone else. He improved morale, got the team back to basics and got them to play with a better shape but the fans would sacrifice some of this for someone who they thought would be loyal and dependable.
He did join a club where he was totally aware of the financial constraints and the protracted nature of the new stadium. Yet used this as his key reason for moving on to Reading - fecking Cop-Out. Had he have said that he was grateful to Brighton for bringing him back into the public eye and that he felt Reading could offer a quicker route to the big time then we could have all respected him for that, and I'm not convinced they do offer the quickest route. Instead he insulted our intelligence -and pissed off leaving it all up in the air. He only signed a new contract a couple of months ago for goodness sake.
I'll be posting the picture from the Reading website on NSC tonight, the body language in the picture of Coppell and Majedsky shaking hands across the desk shows Coppell is not happy at all. Coppell is intimidated by Majedsky (who looks like a bully boy style sales manager) and there's a can of worms there just around the corner.
I'm sure Reading will do ok but their passage to the premiership is not as clear as some may think. The Auto Trader cash must be eroding from the bank very quickly indeed and there's some mighty opposition who I think will be knocking on the door long before Reading. There's a side to me that hopes they don't and can't help thinking a smile will come across me every time I see they've lost!
The ultimate fairytale ending - Brighton secure new stadium deal next spring, Reading stay in division one, Brighton promoted to Division one. End of next season we knock Reading out of the play offs for promotion to the premiership and Coppell seen in tears on the touchline after the match!!
