Coppell - is it all about money?

This is from today's Indy..

"Reading have offered Steve Coppell a large pay rise, but are still waiting on him severing his ties with Brighton, writes Alan Nixon. Coppell's contract at the Madjeski Stadium would be close to £250,000 per year but Coppell is hoping Brighton will make him a better offer."

He said it's not, but I can't believe his excuse for the stadium as we'll know quite soon the outcome.

I think it's more to do with managing in the 1st division. If only he'd waited a few months....

If he stayed with us, he'd easily be worth £250k.

Just under £5k a week, Zamora must have been on close to that last season.

As he turned down their first offer last week because they allegedly only offered another £10k a year above his BHA salary.

It does rather suggest that they've come back with an "improved offer"

But you can't blame SC for that - if I was in his position, I would first check that the job/employer/colleagues were OK; then it would all be about securing the biggest pay packet possible.

The other possible hang up, IMHO, is that he hates getting tied down to long-term deals - and Madjetski is likely to want him to sign for at least 3 years.

It would be a great humiliation for Reading if he doesn't sign, so I expect they will capitulate and give hime what he wants.

Why should the length of contract be a problem? He could just walk.........again.

But not from Madjetski who believes a contract is a contract! Sanctimonious wig-wearing pillock that he is :)
