Commit to the future

IMHO, it appears that the board and MM have always got at least half an eye for the long term – Coca-cola money, bringing the youngsters in, reluctance to use money for short term fixes (i.e. experienced players on loan). I was wondering whether this approach should be applied to the formation that we play. I know MM always wants to play 442 but is that the right way to go when you look at the crop of players we are developing?

Let’s look at the youth team. From the limited amount I have seen and from what I have heard on here, we have the following prospects:

Joel Lynch – looks destined to be a centre back
Tommy Elphick – centre back
Sam Rents – sweet left foot but is he physical enough to be a full back?
Lee Carey – never seen him play - is he wide midfielder or central?
Tommy Fraser – central midfielder/ centre back
Scott Chamberlain – central midfielder
Tiny Cox – feisty winger
Joe Gatting – Powerful centre forward

For arguments sake, let say they all get pro contracts. That would potential leave us with 7 centre backs & 9 central midfielders.

Is it just me or does this suggest the future (until Falmer) is a 5-3-2 (or 5-2-1-2) formation. The squad could look something like this:

GK: Henderson, Kuipers?, Martin and/or Sullivan
RWB: Dodd, Hart (Reid)
LWB: Rents, Mayo, Frutos
CB: Butters, A Hinshelwood, J Lynch, El Abd, Breach, T Elphick
CM: Carpenter, Hammond, Reid, Oatway, Nicolas, Loft, Chamberlain, Fraser, Carey
In the hole: Carole, Cox
CF: Gatting, CKR, Robinson, Turienzo

I know a lot of people have been calling for 5-3-2 for a while, but the more I think about it the more it makes sense.

What do you all think??

Interesting post, I certainly think the club do have an eye on the future. This as you say was in evidence when spending the coke cash on CKR. If we do go down then I think the kids will definately be used a lot more and can see them being the future of BHAFC.

The only first team they will be in will be Bognors or Worthings

Plus Breach and G Elphick who have pro contracts. Those two and Rents will no longer get a chance.

The keepers look good, as do Cox, Gatting, Lynch and particularly Fraser and T Elphick.

Sonny Cobbs is also worth keeping an eye on.
