Typcal, you wait ages to see a referee advance a free-kick ten yards - then four come along at the same time! Yesterday's ref has got that particular rule down to a fine art aye? Was particularly impressed by the way he pompously paced the extra ten yards in the first half so that instead of the City keeper taking the kick from from his goal line he got to take it, er ten yards from his own goal line. Changed the course of the entire match that decision eh?

And as for the lino changing his mind about the fourth ridiculously off-side goal - we were nearly treated to the sight of multiple sendings off of the Albion players, incensed at finding themselves three goals down at home with five minutes left on the clock instead of just two goals down. Just wish they'd showed as much fire and passion for the previous eighty four minutes

At times it felt like you were watching a fund-raising comedy event, clowns in black, clowns in blue and white, shame that the
fellows in red missed the point and didn't join in the spirit of the afternoon.

What the hell was the lino thinking in the 2nd half when their guy blasted the ball into the South Stand, and promptly received a throw in for is efforts. Idiots.

Confusingly the referee introduced a new rule for advancing the free kick, on the fourth offence you only advance the kick EIGHT yards (with the crowd counting)!

On earlier versions he took three paces to his right before starting the count.

The Comedy Show with only City spoiling the party!

and were the "litter pickers" Watson and Jones?

Hey listen I know officials sometimes baffle us all with their decisions, but come on give them a break. You cant blame the three people in the middle for minor errors when the team loses. Obviously the first people to blame are the officials but as a referee and an albion fan, youve got to look at the facts. we lost 4-1 and it wasnt the referee who let the goals in, or gave possesion away or mistimed the tackle was it ??

Yeah that WAS a strange one. The only reason we could think of was that if he'd advanced it a further two yards into the box, it would have changed from being a direct to an in-direct free kick.

True that the players shouldn't be let off the hook for a crap performance, but the was one of the worst ever. Obsessed with being the centre of attention. He missed an obvious foul on Leon in the build-up to the third goal, and allowed the linesman to flag a goal offside, then change his mind. Utter shite.

I prefered his drop ball when he just rolled it back to their keeper to pick up. :dunce:

Correct. The ruling as I understand it is: the ball can only be advanced to the edge of the penalty area. There was an England game some time back (Greece?) where Beckham was clearly put out because the ref. marched the ball right to the edge of the area after an opponent gobbed off. Maybe the players taking the free kick should have an option?

Gotsmanov - believe it would would still be a direct free kick but in the penalty area - seem to remember us scoring in similar circumstances a few years ago (vs Millwall @ Withdean?)

Referee87 - lighten up, we know we were crap (see other threads).

The officials were shite but lets not make excuses.

We got a penalty, 4 free kicks + 10 yards and still could hit a barn door from 2 yards.

The players " furious anger " at the linesman and referee at 4-1 did not fool me, it was an opportunity for them to defelct the flack and attention from their own woeful performances.

That's right. They changed it after the first season or two of the ruling, supposedly to help the attacking team as free-kick takers complained it was harder to score when you're too close in. Too mnay bodies in the way and no chance for 'swerve' to take effect. So the edge of the box is the limit.

The referee and the other officials were crap Saturday. Sadly so was the Albion. People were clearly getting annoyed with the match officials and I guess if the match had been closer they would have got more abuse still.

If u were there u would of seen the foul on Leon before their 3rd goal. Also the lino had his flag up after the fourth goal - dunno if he thought it was goal kick or corner or offside! Most officials seem to be shite nowadays! Agreed with timbha - referee87 lighten up
