Cole was superb, Ronaldo struggled up against him, Gary Neville also had a good game, shame his brother had to spoil it... But my man of the match was Sol Campbell England CAPTAIN!

Ashley Cole played a blinder tonight - easily the best player on the pitch by a mile.

Coles performance was the best i have ever seen from an England left back, had Ronaldo in his pocket.

Sols tackle against Ronaldo (I think) was remenisant of Booby Moore, absolutely brilliant!

In fact i honestly believe we have the best defence in the world bar James.

Oh and with Sol and Cole at the back Arsenal will defibately win the prem and probally the European cup next year - i would put my mortgage on it!

FFS - he hasn't played at his best in this tournament. He IS one of the world of the few world class players that we have. I'm absolutely sick of all the grief that he gets, remember football is a team game.

Cole v Ronaldo was a great duel (and not just to find the Premiership's finest diver), Cole won on points (though sadly not on goals in the end). Would have had him among our first 5 penalty takers too, always good to have a stylish left-footer change the rhythm. But anyway.

He and Campbell have had immense tournaments, Gary Neville too.

John Terry? Hmm...

Cole was f***ing brilliant, proved in this tournement that he is absolutely first class and number one left back. Campbell is known to be first class and didn't disappoint. Top draw as usual. Beckham needs to play as a non-captain...too much pressure for the man who I believe performs better as a team player rather than a leader.

they were both outstanding tonight and it would have been fitting if sol had scored the winner

I'll hold my hands up. I was wrong.
I said, I thought Englands 2 best centre backs were not in Portugal [Rio and Woodgate] but Sol was a rock. Not a great Gary Neville fan, but he did a good job, and Cole was outstanding.
As for the rest. That's another thread.

Good job too, as the team carried him last night. If he wasnt Beckham, he would have been subbed along with Scholes.

I didn't think Gary Neville was that good. He had Beckham covering half the time and was always slowest getting back out of the four defenders. Every time he went forward he screwed up his passes and crosses and gave the ball away. Gary Neville, like his brother Phil have proven yet again that they're only in the England team because they play for Man Ure, not because they're actually good enough.

I go along with Cole and Campbell 8/10 and 9/10 for me.

What does Campbell need to do to score a goal!!!!!!

Cole was a bit lazy at first with his passing, I think we went into this game a bit too casual!!!

The midfield passing would have embarrassed old Charlie Oatway and at least he would have got stuck in.

Why pick 4 attacking midfield players and defend deep into your own penalty box???

Poor performance aka the French game, which has somehow (over the last week) has become a good one?

Portugal were in control passed well and attack with style and with different options.

If only we could do that againgst good sides.

James is not up to it

He flapped at a couple of crosses, poorly handled a couple of easy crosses, remember the one that hit the post.:censored:
