No thread for Charlie (i think) so to mark signing of a new contract then here it is for the 19 year old full back who was on the bench a few times last season, trained with the first team squad and has been with the Academy since he was 8. He went to school in Portslade .

Fab says
“He has the physical basics to play in the Premier League. He has the mindset to play in the Premier League." (but guessing he'll be a loanee next season)

Annoyingly for those who like to track these things the article (hi @AZ Gull ) doesn't actually say how long the new contract is for. Unless someone has spotted that info somewhere else.

Think he could be one of our first team academy próteges next season along with Howell - FH very keen to develop our home grown youngsters - especially that we have scope for rotating more RBs into the side.

He has spoken highly of him:

“He has all the values from this club inside of his body,”
“He has the physical basics to play in the Premier League. He has the mindset to play in the Premier League.”

Very pleased the club have seen something in Charlie. From my limited viewing of him for the U21s he looks like a very good prospect in a position we are severely lacking in. Would like to see him get some senior playing time this season, either on loan or with the Albion from the bench and in cup games.

Congrats to Charlie looking forward to seeing how he handles this opportunity

Great to see local lads signing professional deals with us.

Surely the loans team will be looking for a decent club for him for next season, maybe League 1 or somewhere. Let's get him playing a full season of professional football and see where we are next season

I think League One is too low a level for a player that's been in an around the first team squad at 19. Were he a bit younger, maybe, but I would be expecting him to go to the Championship or Europe, minimum.

Whatever happens, we need to get out of the routine of playing midfielders at right back. Hinsh and Weiffer have done remarkably well out of position, but Tasker actually is a right back. We're losing Lamptey probably and Veltman isn't getting any younger, so if we don't manage to get anyone in for that position this summer, we could see Tasker in and around the first team more often than not in 2025-26.

Either way, delighted for him. It's great news for the lad

Fabian has said he already has the physicality of the PL and understands the ‘process’ so I can’t see why he can’t continue playing in our U21s and PL2 whilst seeing if he can integrate with the first team more permanently next season?

Surely that’s a lot closer to our PL1 in terms of our DNA than a League 1 (which he’s obviously too good for) or the CL and gives him the opportunity to play off the bench with the first team/cup games.

Cracking prospect. Seen him play quite a few times for the U21's last season and he was the best player (and Howell) on the pitch for a number of games. Like FH said, he's very physical and likes a tackle. He's got a great engine, always bombing forward to be the extra man. Noticed he's a leader as well, not afraid to shout and instruct his teammates.

I do think a Championship loan would do him wonders for his development next season but look at Jack Hinshelwood, he didn't need a loan and took his opportunity in the first team.

League One loan the most likely outcome for me, though would be interesting to see him test himself abroad too.

The likes of Peupion and Baker Boaitey have had PL minutes for us but couldn't hold down a place in the lower leagues, so it's not always the biggest indicator. The most important thing at this stage is that he gets regular minutes in men's football.

If he's doing fantastically by January, we can look for a Championship team for him, as we did with Beadle in the past.

Shame a youngster is not given the odd first team game when we have lots of injuries. I suppose it will only happen if we are mid table and not going for a European place or fightong relegation

Not many young players have worked into regular first team players without a loan.

Being really challenged in games by a variety of wingers, with crowds on your back and the pressure of points on the line, week in, week out, feels invaluable for most.

Sounds like another excellent and exciting prospect however.

Fabs wording implies perhaps staying round our squad, but loans are generally our next step in getting young talent ready...

Hmmmm. We don't do too bad at giving youngsters first team games. We bought on a 17 year old while drawing with Liverpool while chasing Europe for one.

We've mostly played 7 or 8 under 24 players in pretty much every game last season

We just need him to get a full season of men's games at this stage IMO. League 1 gives a better chance of this than the Championship.
