Don't know if this has already been mentioned in the thread, but sidebar: Remember that 'mp' in Greek is pronounced 'b' -- so 'Kharalabos'. See also NBA giant Giannis Antetokounmpo, pronounced 'Antehtokoonbo'.

And the Ch at the start is more like an H sound, sort of like the way a Scottish person would say the last two letters of "loch".

Not like the way I heard a Sky reporter pronounce it the other day, which was a hard CH like in Chariots of Fire

And the "nt" is also more of a "d" sound with a soft "n" in front.

(Granted it's not relevant for Charalampos though).

The dull part of the south coast
I still have to pinch myself in how far Brighton have come from the little old club that I used to visit as a kid in my Clarks shoes on cold and wintery 1960s Saturdays to where they are now.
Contracts in those days were done over a pint of Harvey's and a packet of fags.

Sorry for correcting you but it would have been over a pint of Tamplins, which was then taken over by the monstrous Watney’s (excuse me, cat’s piss). 90% of pubs in Brighton and Hove were were tied to Watney’s and therefore required’ to serve their muck. Unless of course contracts were drawn up in Lewes, home of said Harvey’s brewery.

As for fag packets, take your pick from Senior Service, Woodbine, Embassy, No.6, Rothmans and so on. Had it been an overseas player you might have chosen Gauloises, Camel, Lucky Strike or Marlboro.

Right, I’m going back to bed. :bigwave:

What a coup for the club to get this done, if that's what happened. If anyone had told me we'd be signing greek teenager wunderkinds for 30 million, beating Chelsea and other bigger clubs to get them, you might be forgiven in raising a sceptical eyebrow. Once again, shows what a well run and attractive proposition we now are for young talent around the world. Of course it remains to be seen if they can deliver on the pitch but for now, well done to all concerned.
