Isn't there a danger that this rule change will mean that even less will make it in the game and turn pro, if you are stopping their development by blocking the usual progression route of loan football in order to get valuable game time and experience, how will these younger players become ready to play first team football for their club?
Players develop at different rates so if limited to 8, the 8 chosen to go on loan at that time may not have become the best 8 players if the restrictions on loans weren't in place
What effect will this have on talent that may join later in life (like an Ian Wright who was 22) who may need game time to get up to speed but it would mean a youngster misses out on valuable experience from a loan
What about if a team wants to get a player who has been injured out on loan to help them recover (Robbie Savage when we were at Withdean) That too would mean a younger player misses out on the opportunity to develop in an environment which will be far more beneficial that sticking around in the U-23's / youth set up
Clubs will still pick up a lot of young players, because it's always hard to work out who will make it through the ranks, so if the loan football route is blocked, could youngsters become even more likely to leave the game than they are now?
