I know her best for her work with Charlie Haden - some of my favourite jazz albums - but I also have Michael Mantler's Silence, a Pinter play set to music.
It's got a diverse cast of Bley, Robert Wyatt, Kevin Coyne, Chris Spedding as well as Mantler himself (married to Bley at the time) and is quirkily atmospheric. I listened to it a lot in the mid-70s, time to dig it out again.
Apart from everything else - going back to stuff like Escalator over the Hill and beyond, I really like the recent stiff with Steve Swallow and Andy Sheppard….
I saw things about Carla Bley last night on Facebook, checked it on BBC website which showed nothing about it so wasn’t sure.
this morning it was on the Guardian website, but still nothing on the BBC as far as I can see. Have they missed it? Or does she not warrant a mention?
