 I realise i might be opening a can of worms here....
what constitutes rascism nowadays?
There's the obvious stuff ( ron atkinson comment ), but are comments made by Anne robinson about the welsh not rascist?
I'm white and if someone called me a honky, i'd laugh and tell em to piss off, but would u b offended? Are there different forms of rascism? Is all rascism the same regardless of type of language?
Your thoughts please..

brighton, actually
(side point- why didnt itv suspend, then sack big ron, rather than let him save his cv by 'resigning'...? some of the comments were shocking, and though the players concerned maybe deserved criticism, the words he used, in whatever context, were out of order - what was the mic doing left on, for a far east broadcast anyway? why arent we shown the full monty, as it were, on uk telly?

i feel being politically (or racially) correct has made us scared to express our true feelings. i may hate someone becuse they're
a f@@@@@@ b@@@@@@, but their color, race, etc doesnt come into it- though i have seen the reverse situation, and white people being abused, because of their colour... even by 'fellow'
palefaces...:(

I agree, the phrase Honky makes me laugh. It just sounds so silly. I suppose some would argue that as we are not subjected to racist abuse on a daily basis we can laugh it off. Then again, I laugh when I get Gay jibes from opposition fans and mates at work etc for being from Brighton (Hove actually!).

Racism is wrong, as is a lot of stuff in the world. Unfortunately there are lots of thick people out there and it would be some job to convince them that Black people (for example) do not take all 'our' jobs and scrounge dole money because they come here not wanting to work! Isn't that just the greatest paradoxical regurgitated f*ckwit argument that, sadly, you still here in pubs today.:nono:

I personally think that the Sun and the Daily Mail have a lot to answer for.

it is a good question though, for example you are asked not to use the words blackboard and whiteboard in schools. You are asked to use chalkboard and penboard instead.

Now, is this taking things just a little bit fuckin far or what !!

The term that also makes my skin crawl is that of positive racism. how can any racism be positive ?!?!

Take the example now that any black/asian applicants to the policeforce are fastracked (1 month application) in comparison to a white officer (8 months) as this is deemed 'positive discrimination'.

HOW THE f*** IS THAT EQUALITY ?? to me, that IS RACIST - what do others think ?

Black people always call each other niggers.

If Tupac Shakur had been commentating and he called Desailly a lazy ****** would he have been forced to resign?

Good point, good point. There is also a track out at the moment called 'watcha lookin at honky trash' by a black hip-hop artist (name escapes me). How on earth is this allowed.............oh yeah, of course, racism only seems to work one way in this country :nono:

To reach equality you have to have a level playing field with all applicants etc being treated the same. 'Positive' type projects, however good intentioned, play right in to the hands of right wing fools and give them great propaganda material.

Another example would be the all women shortlists for prespective parliamentary candidates by Labour. I am all for more women MPs (boot out some of the miserable old farts in the Commons), but if I had political aspirations to represent people in the area I lived, I would be gutted that I could not put myself forward, simply because I am male. It makes a mockery of due process and best person for the job.

I have yet to hear of someone of ethnic minority persuasion being convicted of racism even though Pakistanis hate Hindus and they both hate Sikhs.

A mate who is a copper says that Turks and Kurds keep having fights using knives in Portsmouth on a weekly basis. The Police pick up the pieces, drop the wounded off in hospital, arrest a couple of people and then let them go in the morning. It is deemed to be too politically sensitive to make an issue of conflict between Asylam seekers.

Again, this kind of thing plays right in to the hands of the idiots that we would wish to give little ammo too.

I know. Where I lived before was a predominantly Asian area. I have heard it with my own ears.

As a character in BBC's 'The Office' once said to Mr Brent:

'and why is it that only black people should be offended by racism'

In Big Ron's defence he was one of the first managers to introduve black players into english football and is well known for this.

I think he didnt mean any racism in it, but should have chosen his words better. Had he said 'hes a lazy useles frog' would the reaction have been the same?

No excuse and he did the right thing resigning, but I dont think for one minute he is actually a racist.
