A mate of mine taught Jihadi John (south bank poly, or university of the thames, or whatever it is now called). Said he wasn't very good (fancy that!). I'm sorry but I find it hard to accept places like that (including Westminster - sorry) as actual universities. Reading some of the coursework I'm currently about to resume marking, I struggle to fathom how even my illustrious citadel of learning and achievement can call itself a university. But I digress.

I went to the the Polytechnic of Central London. It went from being best Poly.(a misnomer?) to worst University as Westminster. It is reported that Jihadi John Lennon went to Westminster Uni.

Aware of my academic failings I studied as a Post Grad at UCL in case I was to encounter any snobbishness towards my low brow Degree in later life. Well worth it.

Although I agree with the meaning of your post, it wasn't a desk or any group of people they banned from Freshers week, it was Firearms. Although if the Telegraph had actually said that there would be no story for people to get upset about

It didn't work to elevate my sarcasm though, so I had some creative license to go with the Telegraph headline presentation.

I mean banning firearms from Freshers Week would seem entirely reasonable, and why would you bring them to an event where young adults, mostly away from home for the first time are having their first proper introductions to binge drinking. The last thing I would have wanted to see on say the 3rd or 4th day of Freshers Week was an army officer showing me a load of guns. You're twisting my melon man....

Banning the forces from attending is ridiculous. Is Stella suggesting that the military should be banned from recruiting from universities?

But, on the second part - she’s probably right that there is no need for firearms to be there (at least in that context).

Shh! You can't go round bringing reasonable points like this into the debate. This is just another thing we all have to polarise around and either shout and scream in favour of the military and accuse those who disagree of wanting the terrorists to win, or we have to regard all military personnel as glorified murderers who butcher innocent people for megalolz.

There can be no compromise. Just like there can't seemingly be on any other subject right now in this godforsaken political climate.

Having attended Sussex University on similar day whilst serving I can assure you there were no firearms being carried and tbh I’m not sure where that side of the story comes from!!
