It was for general camping, essential items whilst on holiday, walking, travelling around and handy tool in the pocket whilst doing odd jobs.

Customs took my SAK away because it had a lockable blade and the blade was over 3 inches long.

It looks like the Gerbers could give the same grief!!!

In that case you are stuffed. However, you could always break the lockable blade off, gives you access to the rest of the tool kit. If you don't want a blade, then cycle toolkits are pretty useful as well.
