Well its another win and the new signings seem to be doing ok.
The key players seem to be Bertan and Savage and if they can be kept hold of the team starts to look like a top 6 team.

What else is needed?

I would suggest a left winger and another forward.

Have we properly replaced Chippy? I think we need some bite in the middle of the park.

It does sound like it was backs to the wall stuff for the entire second half last night. You can't expect to keep winning games like that.

need 20 goals a season player to go up

Do we have that already ? Probably not

Will Butters go another year ? Who would replace

Left back still concern for me

Bertin has the potential to be Chippy and Charlie in one, plus a whole lot more. Throw in Cox, Ward and Hammond on form and that's as decent a midfield as I can remember for a long time.

If the Bas Savage Show continues, we are laughing - I'm not bothered about us being under the cosh last night, I seem to remember us nicking quite a few away games when winning titles back to back, courtesy of Bob breaking away when the siege momentarily lifted.

As Dougal says-we need a goal scorer capable of getting 15-20 goals.

We'll have Reid back at some point next season, maybe Oatway too as cover (probably the best we can expect from him).

We need 3 or 4 new faces (experienced) to turn this side into contenders. Should be an interesting off-season, especially if we get the go ahead decision on the Stadium.

Must be very frustrating for Peter Taylor that his current team don't seem to have grasped his favourite way of playing

Hinshelwood, if and when fit again, could still be an important player for us.

Revell is still working to get back.

Robinson isn't out of the picture just because he's been dropped for now, as with Hart.

There is some healthy competition building for places in the team, and options are looking better. Agreed about keeping an eye out for a defender still, as O'Cearuill is only a loanee - but I think Cox will make a great forward player, while El-Abd is more a midfielder (and a good one) than a defender.

Goalie - I wonder if Kuips will be offered a longer contract? If not, then Deano must think the goalies are not yet ready ( odd as we signed a youth keeper from palace)

Left back - Kerry is probably not up to it now, not sure about bayako - is he a leftie?Rents to play there?

Right back - El Abd looks solid but distribution woeful....could do with one

Centr backs - I am not sure Dean will keep O'gooner and there is still tehuncertainty over Butters and Hynvch., So that leaves us with Lynch....fringe players like santos elphic are cover no more.

Midfield....imperative we keep Bertin. we have looked 100% better team since he arrived. I assume Wardy will go, therefore that leaves Hammond, Cox, Frutos ( who I also see as going) frazer, hart ( who will probably go)...therefore we are short there.

Up front...baz and Revell, Elder and Robinson, Gatting.

It will be interesting when the retianed list comes out and who stays and goes.

I would say thankyou to :

kerry M
hart
Frutos
Charlie

Still not sure

Guy
Kuips

I cant see anyone coming in for any of our players at present

Kuipers has been too good a servant, a keeper, and a professional (waiting patiently while Henderson was preferred) for him to NOT be given another contract.
Personally I don't see why that's a question, but there ya go.

El-Abd is a type of midfielder that gets stuck in, and can really solidify the middle alongside the necessary intelligent distributer of the ball. The two in the middle should be a wall before the defence, and good passers - while the flanking midfielders should be fast and able to link with everyone else, offering transfer from defence to midfield to attack.

I'm not having a pop as I believe this to be true, but it is quite amusing to hear this again. I think it's been said every season for the last 5 or six years!

And no doubt we'll keep hearing it until the stadium gets the green light.

Let's hope this is the last time..........

Sonny Cobbs, Sam Gargan, James Martin, Lloyd Skinner and Chris Winterton are in contention for either a pro deal or to be released.

Cobbs, I reckon, is a cert to get a deal. Gargan's been on 1st team standby so would appear to be in contention. Not so sure on Martin and Skinner although I think they may get deals too.

I'm not sure about Winterton because of Sullivan and Martin. I suppose it depends upon how he compares to them or whether one of Sullivan/Martin is given the chance to be 'back-up' keeper.

Regarding Winterton, I think the fact that both Sullivan and Martin have another year on their contracts will count against him.

It would be good if we could get the contract situation sorted nice and early this year, starting with giving Wilkins a two year extension. I would think Rents, Kuipers, and Butters are all shoo-ins. Mayo and Hart are not looking so certain, and Oatway who knows. Securing Bertin is important, he has improved our midfield options greatly. Frutos has another year but maybe we will look to offload him as he is not getting a look in.

[GK] Kuipers, Sullivan, Martin - Should be adequate, the young two will have to have a chance sometime though.

[RB] El-Abd, Elphick? - We miss a genuine right back, Whing may be a possibility if Dowie doesn't rate him. Reid may also come back in here, should think he'd do well there in this league.

[LB] Rents, Cobbs, Mayo?? - Rents looks useful and Cobbs is highly rated, could possibly use a bit more experience if Mayo goes. Bakayogo is an unknown quantity.

[CB] Lynch, Butters, Hinshelwood (hopefully), El-Abd, Elphick? - Lynch and Butters looks a good pairing. El-Abd is good cover and hopefully Hinsh will come back, then we'd be very strong in this area.

[RM] Fraser, Cox, Reid, Hart? - Ward will probably go back to QPR, and if Hart goes we could definitely do with someone here. Darren Currie?

[LW] Cox, Frutos? - We look light here although if we were to bring in Currie or someone else who could play both wings we would probably be ok.

[CM] Hammond, Bertin?, Fraser, El-Abd, Oatway??, Chamberlain, Reid - I think we are fine here as long as we secure Bertin.

[CF] Robinson, Revell, Savage, Elder, Gatting - We have a few options but are any of them 20 goal men? I think Robinson could be capable of it, but he needs to make good on his potential and be far more consistent. Revell and Savage look to have some goals in them, Elder and Gatting not sure.

Overall I think we are fairly strong, as long as we don't lose anyone. 2-3 additions would easily make us top 6 material imo.
