Britain's Greg Rusedski won his 14th ATP title with victory in the Hall of Fame Championships in Newport.
Rusedski, playing his first ATP final in more than a year, beat Germany's Alexander Popp 7-6 (7/5) 7-6 (7/2).
The victory will help the 30-year-old reclaim the British number two spot from Arvind Parmar when the world rankings are released on Monday.
Rusedski is the leader among active players for grass court wins and extended his total to 78.
Rusedski felt he had proved a point after winning his first title since he was cleared of a doping offence in March.
"My critics were basically telling me to retire," said Rusedski.
"I'm glad I hung in there."
In the first tiebreak, Rusedski hit a lunging backhand at the net that barely went over, pushing him ahead 6-5 and he closed out the set with an ace.
"I think the advantage I had over Popp is this was his first final and it was my 25th," Rusedski said.
The Briton went up 6-1 in the second tiebreak, winning when Popp hit a backhand return into the net.
"This is the start of a comeback," said Rusedski, who also won the Rhode Island tournament in 1993.
"I had a miserable two years. It's a great feeling to come back here 11 years later."
