UWE Bristol: News

This is a good move IMO, for both club and university. The Uni has bought loads of land at Frenchay which it probably doesn't need now with the HE funding cuts, transport links are good and it's not far away from Bristol Parkway. Sharing facilities with the Uni makes it more viable too. The club has been looking to upgrade their stadium for years now.

Not sure about that picture though, it looks like they're opting for a bog standard bowl stadium.

I wonder what the fans make of it...

Good move. Fantastic that the Uni's football and rugby teams will be able to use the stadium for varsity matches.

a new ground is a new ground. this one is very MK-esque, I mean, Bristol might at least not be so ambitious about the amount of fans they have. MK, what, made room for 20,000? and never finished the stands.

The only thing that confuses me, if the club couldn't afford to upgrade the Memorial Stadium whilst groundsharing with the rugby team, how can they suddenly afford a new stadium with the backing of a university? Maybe they feel this would really be worth the extra investment.

ees complicated no?

I dont understand why they dont do a ground share with Bristol city it surely makes more sence for any 2 clubs in real close proximity of each other to share stadiums that way it will be better value for money ?

They're opposite ends of the city, and I generally think that wouldn't go down well with either sets of fans. Groundsharing might be financially viable but it isn't appreciated as a long term option in this country like it is in say Italy or Germany.
