From their site:

"It was scrappy to say the least, at no time did we get the ball down and play,'' said the gaffer. "We knew Brighton we going to come here and be scrappy and resilient. I also thought their centre backs bullied our front two and we never really got anything out of them.

I though we outplayed them for large parts of the game ?

Clearly Lewington was not watching the game this afternoon.

If it had been a boxing match we would have won hands down on points.

why is it every team who fails to beat us either says they played poor or play us down? they just cant admit we outplayed them.

Our goal was untypical in the context of the game. We didn't really pass it and no-one really played well.
"Naturally we're disappointed. It was hard work for the supporters watching from the sidelines because we didn't play at all well. Sometimes there is no reason for performances like that. "All credit to the character of the players, they hung in there. A number of decisions went against them but I thought we deserved to get the three points."

from BBC site- they desvered 3 points?! did he actually watch the game? teamtalk says we dominated too.

Can I be the first to apologise to Ray Lewington then for our centre-backs "bullying" their forwards. This was clearly beyond our remit as "Championship Whipping Boys" for this season, and the fact that our defenders felt the need to physically impair the Watford forwards' ability to score goals against us was both unfair and ungentlemanly.

I trust this will be rectified in the return match at Withdean. But then again, I cannot legislate for the possibility of us butt-f***ing them 4-0 again like last time. Its all so unfair.

what a cock! we played like a premiership, passing, long balls to the wing, individual skills, a superb goal and dominating the game! Lewington might help to watch ur team, as painful as that might be :tosser:

What game did Lewington see, from where I was sitting we were the better side for at least 70 mins of the game and it would of been unjust had we come away with nothing!!!

it's a fair comment it was a scrappy game but one where we looked to win to ball and showed a lot of determination and the only real chance they had was straight after half time when we had'nt got straight back into the 1st half mould of play.
if we have to be solid and gritty in our play so be it and if that means scrappy games more the merrier.
its nice to hear oppo fans saying we have'nt played that badly in ages when really brighton made them play that way by forcing our game on to them.

We play to our strengths. All we have to do this season is stay up.

I wouldn't worry about being scrappy. It don't matter how you play as long as you get the points that keep you up ;)

Fair comment, but it wasn't true. We played some great football yesterday, great to watch, at times in the second half to the point I had to actually remind myself I was watching Brighton!

As already said, though, no point in getting the needle about what another manager thinks, I hope they all think all they've got to do is turn up and they'll win, cos after the last couple of performances, there'll be a few that are in for a nasty shock.

I have been getting mightily irritated by these comments about a 'scrappy' game. Sure the' Golden Boys' were sloppy but our game plan was very professionally executed. We showed accurate passing often over long distances, faultless control, good movement, committed but precise tackling. In no way does that equate to scrappy.

I think that there are a few at Watford and in the media who can't bear the thought of an established side at the level being outplayed by a 'pub team'. This may be to our advantage as it obviously really gets to our opponents when we don't just roll over and die.

Could it be because Lewington and Adams have been to same finishing schools for put-downs and unadolterated arrogance?

Stayed with the big club..you should have stayed etc etc.....

On the radio it sounded like the Albion were the better team.

After every game we have played this season it seems the game has been described as scrappy. I remember McCoist asking McGhee a question on the ITV programme after the victory over Preston about a scrappy game, to which McGhee replied along the lines “I don’t know what you’re used to watching but we’re quite happy with it!”.
