Brighton Station Car Park

On a train...
Has anyone parked in the station car park in the last couple of weeks?

75% of it is now basically formed of rubble, and they are apparently building a Sainsbury's and a multi storey car park on it.

It's now a complete nightmare for anyone who arrives after 9am and wishes to get a space, especially for staff like me who rely on it to get to and from work.

The place was never intended to be a permanent car park. Ever since the Railway Works closed (and that was so long ago that most people will probably say "Railway Works? What Railway Works?"), the site has been ear-marked for redevelopment.

Now, finally, something is happening. And the massive temporary car park will shrink.

PS - this is also the final confirmation that Brighton Station is NOT an alternative site for a community stadium - despite the fact that only last month Falmer Parish Council were still writing to the ODPM about how the availability of the Station site was a reason for refusing the Falmer application.

They are putting in a 2 deck multi storey car park which will hold the same amount of cars as before, but only use half of the area.

Just old enough to remember when the rail works were a derelict shell waiting to be demolished. These works were a major employer in days gone by. The townhouses of North laine that are now homes to arty farty transients from London and beyond were once the humble abodes of the towns railway workers.

My family remember the works being one of the biggest in the country rivalling Derby>

Members of CCK church have been told we cannot park outside next Sunday and will have to use the London Rd car park because work will be going on.

I think the reason they are saying you can't park there on a Sunday now is the Market is still going on. Us staff have 49 places reserved!
