Hi fellow seagulls, Was wondering if anyone could help me with a little problem that I have.

My girlfriend is at Bristol University and she and her friend say that Bristol have more pubs and more clubs than Brighton. I told them it's rubbish and Brighton is the best and has more nightlife than Bristol.

Can any of you please enlighten me with some facts on which city has the most.

Any help would be greatly received.

Mr Dandy.

Seaford Where else!
I too, used to live in Bristol. Pubs in Bristol are bigger but not better. And there's definately more in Brighton.

Bristol population = 380615
Brighton population=247817
On these figures you would expect Brizzle to have more of everything.

Found this very useful site. Think it sums our debate up perfectly:)

Brighton

Nowdays there are loads of excellent pubs, bars and clubs. There are lots of groovy pubs. It's pretty good for a Friday or Saturday night out.

The bars in the area are great for top nights out with your mates, with an excellent calibre of lady and man to suit every taste (and the bar staff aren't bad either). In terms of restaurants, well, there are hundreds that'll willingly take your money for a bit of high-calibre nosh, and even more who serve up a great greasy spoon breakfast for the morning after. As for Tandooris and Balti-Houses, well, they're a penny to the dozen.

Brighton Rocks. You cannot have a better night out anywhere else in England - fact. The Brighton Club scene is renowned throughout the UK. With some of the best clubs around, people flock here every weekend to experience the Brighton Life feeling.

Brighton is in East Sussex and is notorious for its beaches and gay community. In fact it has been dubbed as Britain’s number one gay seaside resort. Although there are venues here for serious clubbers, the emphasis is on having some fun and therefore there are plenty of themed bars and pubs on offer.

The city has more clubs per square mile than anywhere else in the country, with approximately 29 venues in a 1.5 mile radius. Some of the larger clubs include The Concorde 2 which has been described as being at the cutting-edge of Brighton’s music scene with top DJ’s and great music. Another major player in the City’s clubland is The Escape Club with two rooms and an approximate capacity of 700 it has been home to almost every DJ during its 15 year history.

If you are after themed and cheap venues, Margot’s Parties may be worth a visit. If hardcore clubbing or cheap themed nights aren’t your cup of British tea than perhaps Palmers Bar is worth a shout (another one of those ‘in-fashion’ pre-club bars) with a relaxed atmosphere and reasonably priced drinks. And if you are looking for some typically-Brighton fun then Revenge may just be up your alley, this has been described as one Brighton’s largest and most popular gay venues.
Needless to say no matter what bar or club you decide to visit in Brighton – you’re in for a good time.

Bars and clubs.

I remember reading that Bristol has the highest number of restaurants per head of population. Mind you, my memory is not so good so it could have been the greatest number of population per restaurant.

I hope this helps.

Considering where I've been in Britain (Kilburn, Manchester, middle of Wales, Cardiff, Zummerzet, and Brighton), I'd have to agree

Bristol is far too hilly.

And you think Brighton isn't?

I like Bristol. I came within a whisker of living there once, but Brighton rules ...despite the hills. :)

If you're after pubs per capita, how about Lewes?

Bristol undoubtedly has population AND restaurants in large numbers.

Which Town really does have the most pubs per square mile? I think i've seen about 20 towns make that claim. Even Oldham claims to have the most pubs per square mile!

I've just had a quick look on Google and have found the following Towns and Cities laying claim to having the most amount of pubs per square mile:

Wrexham
St Albans
Guisborough
Wimborne
Leeds
Todmorden
Shrewsbury
Otley
Scarborough
Rugby
Rochdale
Eccles
Stockport
Nailsworth
Howden
Norwich
Harwich
York
Canterbury
Sheffield
Cowes
Brighton
Manchester.

But not Oldham.

Which one is it?
