Would anyone be interested in buying my entry to this years Brighton marathon from me for £25. It is worth £50. For various reasons I'm unable to do it this year.

PM me if interested.

Cant transfer now I don't think. You need all sorts of ID to obtain or collect your pack.

You dont need any ID. The pack was sent to my home address. It's just a case of running the race in my name. An unofficial transfer if you like. No ID is required on the day.

Why would someone want to run a marathon in your name. Have their time accredited to you, and pay you 25 quid for the privilege?

Can do an unofficial transfer. I have the race pack they have sent it to my home address. Its just a case of running as me. No ID is required on the day.

For the sheer PLEASURE of running a marathon?

Mind you ... it could be embarassing if you finish in the top three, using a false name. I think I'll give this one a miss.

But running a marathon is all about personal achievement.

Offer it for nowt by all means. But wanting half the entry fee for someone to run in your name , two weeks before the event, is a bit much.

I'm not forcing anyone to take my place it's merely an offer as I cant make it. As for having 'their time accredited to me' I'm hardly gonna bask in the 'glory' and make out it was me who ran the race. As for '25 quid for the priviledge' I paid £50 for it so i think offering it for £25 is very reasonable. Like I said is only an offer I'm not forcing anyone and if nobody wants to take me up on it then no problem.

So you would offer something worth £50 'for nowt' would you? As for 'running in my name' I'm not going to be claiming I did the race am I? My friends / family etc have been told by me I'm not doing it, I'm not going to be leafing through the results in the Argus finding my name and saying 'look at me i ran the marathon.' To be honest I'm so gutted have had to pull out I wont even look at the results.

Why is offering someone the chance to run the brighton marathon at half the price I paid for it 'a bit much?' I'm perfectly genuine in my reasons for offering the place and I thought there might be someone out there who might've thought they had missed out on the opportunity to do the marathon who now can.

What about if the person running gets injured or worse. The organisers are very anti 'transfers' maybe respect that.

Not for everyone. I once took part in the Siberian International Marathon event in Omsk (long story - don't ask - and it didn't involve running). One of the runners was the current World Marathon Champion - a title that the World Runners organisation bestows on the athlete who completes most marathons in a year. He spent the whole race (five hours +) chatting up a woman he had met on the train from Moscow. I think he was a 2 hours 40 minutes runner.
