Daft question for those of you who live in Brighton but any tips from people who have done this event before? I now reside in Cambridge and will be staying in Hurstpierpoint Saturday evening but not sure as to the best way of getting me, my wife and little boy to Madeira Drive for 8ish. Train looks like a nightmare and a bit of a rush and parking is extortionate.

Aside from being told the park and ride has been sold out the Brighton half marathon site has been next to useless for help and there doesn't seem to be any advice anywhere.

HELP PLEASE

you can use the underground car park opposite the West Pier or the Churchill Square car park - shouldn't be too expensive unless you're planning to take 8 hours on the run.

I always use the Churchill Square 2 car park (entrance to west of Grand via Canon Place) for the Sunday morning seafront races. Normally quiet and not too expensive compared with the other car parks.

If you go right down to bottom level you will be on Russell Road (back of Brighton Centre) ground level and can then walk down West Street (dipping in to Travelodge for a pee en route to save queueing at portaloos!). Also if wet, hotel foyer keeps you/family dry till you have to get down to Madeira Drive for start.

good tip, cheers. Was hoping to get under 2 hours but with reduced training due to illness and snowy conditions, just want to finish by midday!

Big thanks to all who gave advice to me on this - it was easy to park, cost cheaper and less hassle than park and ride and the tip on using the travelodge for toilets was inspired.

Aside from having to run 1/2 mile further than was supposed to be I had a great day out and just wanted to thank those who gave advice.

Cheers!

You are welcome RB. Did you break the 2 hours you were hoping for (excluding the extra distance you were forced to run)?

Bloomin outrageous organisation! Have never heard the likes of it. Just praying the Brighton Marathon lot get the distance right!!

GPS on phone was going crazy after 4 miles and I thought something was up. Crossed finish line 1hr 59m 55sec according to my phone, 1hr 59m 23sec officially but then readjusted to 1hr 56m so very happy indeed.

Best thing was having family and friends cheering me on - wife and little one obviously great but so happy that both my dad and best man Mark were there after both beating cancer in the past two years.

Really enjoyed the event though - perfect conditions.

Excellent work!!

I only took up running just under 4 years ago, having done nothing from leaving school/uni to 40. Love the buzz/achievement of race day! Will be my first Brighton marathon this year. Going to be amazing running through my own town with all that support. If that doesnt inspire me to a PB, nothing will!

Dont know what distance you are looking at next, but not too far from Cambridge, I did the Abingdon marathon last October. They do a half on same day. Ideal PB race, as fast/flat, but as a result gets booked up early.
