ok i went to Dorothy Stringer before i moved up to Rutland and i thought it was quite a good school and arguably it did get reasonable results. Patcham on the other hand go something like 20% pass rate and Falmer did sort of the same and well i thought that was terrible considering the worst school in Rutland got 64%! if my state school can get 74% why cant other schools do it?

To be dull it is all about the ability of the students when they arrive (ie their previous results), mixed in with their inherent ability, ethos of the school, parental support, aspirations of the students and their families, social background (especially how many books the family own), the other schools in the area (if there are grammar schools), if the school has discovered a way of increasing the the stats without taking more GCSEs (GNVQs being worth 4 GCSE at a C grade, therefore students would only need one more GCSE to get 5) etc etc i could go on for ever!

Come off it, the figure quoted on Sky News was 99% of GCSE's Taken resulted in a PASS...I'm convinced that just proves the exams are easy..

They even showed some kids opening exam results"live" they got E, F and I think G and they were happy,

Other kids took 10 GCSE's when I took my exams it was hard enough taking 5 O levels in a year...not 10...

kids can't win today

everyone says they're thick, then they get better and better results every year, and it has NOTHING to do with their ability, it MUST be that the exams are getting easier

A pass is a G grade, equivalent to an old CSE grade 5.

A C is equivalent to an old GCE O'level pass.

All that proves is that Sky are deliberately manipulating figures.

Kids that get good grades do so because they work f***ing hard for them and all this crap talk takes that away from them.

How could ANYONE be happy with a G? You're right, sky are manipulating figures.

The only pass that really counts is A-C

Over here we have slightly contracting results levels and the older generation STILL insist the exams aren't getting easier. Which they aren't, and as there's only one set of papers (only one exam board - the State) and those are available with marking schemes back to 1995, that can be verified by anyone with time to do so.

I put it down to people who are unwilling to accept that anyone younger than them is capable of doing as well or better than them

GET A GCSE GRADE C FOR 16% IN AN EXAM......

The revelation that pupils scoring as low as 16 per cent could be awarded C grades in one Edexcel maths GCSE paper and an A* grade with only 47 per cent in an AQA business studies paper was made after an investigation by The Times Educational Supplement.

But the astonishingly low marks for top grades were not isolated.

The analysis also revealed that pupils could achieve a C grade with 20 per cent in AQA GCSE maths, 25 per cent in classical Greek or 28 per cent in physics.

At Edexcel C grades at GCSE were awarded for 32 per cent in a French paper, 36 per cent in German and 39 per cent in religious studies, where administrative staff were used to speed up the marking process.

That doesn't prove anything. It's another distorted figure. 16% is the lowest mark they could possibly get in that exam, IF they had got 100% on every other part of the course, including coursework and the other paper.

It's complete bullshit spread by the press to sell papers to mugs like you.

I was the first year to take GCSE's (i'm 35 now). I went to the worse school in my then home town Folkestone. The school refused to but the hand full of students in for the papers that meant we could get an A. That meant that in most suspects the best grade that I could get was a C. I still managed to come out with 1 B and 6 C's and a D.

A few years later I went back to college and managed to up 2 of the C's to B's and took another 2 subjects getting an A and a B.

I know that it is years since I sat the exams and in most cases years since I have needed most of what I learnt. However I recently looked at some maths and physics papers and from what I recall they were no easier then the ones I took.

Obviously Fork me you just received 3 G's and are a little bit bitter..

Never mind you can always go back to college.

On the contrary, I've been to three Universities and I'm a secondary school teacher and know how the exams work.

The papers print this bullshit every year.

The simple FACT is, that kids have to work bloody hard to get their grades and bullshit like this takes that away from them.

Top post:thumbsup: I love the INDEPENDENT schools bit, always trying to run down the state sector these paper stories are....f***ing independent schools can take a hike.

And you can't get 16% and get a C...the only way possible would be to have got 100% on all other modules and have it combined...so to speak. I know....I was crap at Maths yet did Higher paper at GCSE, the pass mark was at 40%(Back in 2004).

Which coincidentally is the same pass mark needed at UCL(where I'm at now), but you don't see anyone running them down do you?
