I know Withdean is like a morgue most of the time, but my question is, does someone want to keep it that way? I was atsounded by events yesterday.

I sit in E Block and there is a season ticket holder who sits down the front who often tries to get the singing going (thirties, glasses, baseball cap). He seems a nice bloke, always has a sense of humour and has a good rapport with the whole block.

Yesterday he was approached by stewards and police and I think he was ejected. The fans around us were going mad because he had clearly done nothing wrong. We had about ten stewards and police watching us for the entire second half and if anyone else stood up to sing they were pointed out by the stewards and monitored.

Does anyone know if he was ejected and if so, do they know why? I am happy to write to the club and defend this guy if he was thrown out and is in trouble.

He's the main crowd-get-togetherer in E block, and he does a bloody good job too. As far as I could see, a complaint was made by the SKY bloke in a trench coat between the dugouts and the coppers tried to sort whatever it was out. Not sure whether he was ejected in the end, nor whether it was him they were trying to sort. Can only imagine too much swearing made it onto the telly. Which makes me guilty as hell :lolol:

I think it was the abuse directed at mr dowie that was causing the over zealous stewards to act

There was a lot of swearing on the TV coverage in the first 20 mins or so - you could clearly hear someone call Freeman "a gypsy twat" after about 5 mins...

I saw Dowie complain to someone and two minutes later they were focusing on the bloke, but how can they honestly say it was him.

The bloke is always vocal but i don't think he seems the type to shout anything offensive enough to get thrown out. I reckon he was picked out as an easy target as he often tries to get the crowd going.

to be honest, everyone in f block was going for it, and they moved in to take him away. loved the way though at our f nblock side, everyone just sat there so the police couldnt get to whoever they were going for

well over the top

Yeah, I was in E block - Dowie complained to the 4th official about some abuse he was getting and a couple of the lads got chucked out.

That was the 4th Officials first mistake of the day.

Is it better your at the back then? So stewards can't see you?

I heard about the stewards at Withdean on SCR a few months ago and felt it completely bizarre. When a couple of us stood up including me to encourage the team as we were probably countering, (think it was when we was leading 1-0) someone row behind me defended me with "Whats the score Dowie? Whats the score you ugly muppet"

I looked down to see if the stewards heard it as to be honest I was expecting it and none of them cared. It must be if your in the front row.

I was five rows from the front and using "colourful language and choice phrases" and didn't get any beef from stewards. Cant imagine they would be able to single any one out, ridiculous in my opinion.

Next time McGhee or the players complain at the lack of atmosphere, then they should look at the wan*er stewards at the front of D & E block. It appears to be illegal to have an atmosphere at the dump they call Withdean. I hate the place, roll on Falmer and at least we will have a roof.

Most of H block were abusing Dowie all game. Didn't see anyone get told to stop etc. I sit in row B and I was giving it the large as much as anyone.
