On a train...
Trains are now starting to run on all routes via Brighton (with the exception of Brighton to Worthing, this is planned weekend engineering) after yesterday derailment of a First Capital Connect service.

Expect delays and alterations for some time, possibly including tomorrows AM peak due to stock being all over the place.

On a side note I just got a text message from Southern saying a big thank you to all staff. You are a credit to the company.

Yeah we got that from one of the big noises in Network rail as well, A thank you to all staff involved your all a credit to the company! Would be rather nice if they're thanks could extend to a nice little bonus but I just know it wont!

It's just outside Brighton Station.

Where you see the lines on the right hand side of the photo curving away, that's the Lewes/Seaford/Eastbourne line.

I heard it was either Wembley or Derby, but that was only hearsay.

It is not like it is sitting there, I heard it came from Exeter - I wonder if one of us is right ?

Was the First Capital guard that gave me a penalty fare the other day on the train?

I'm sure I heard that the train was empty except for the driver, so probably not unfortunately.

It would have been a Revenue Protection Inspector (RPI) as FCC don't have guards.

First Capital Connect don't have guards/conductors. Only Revenue Protection Officers. All FCC trains are Driver Only.

Conductors will sell you a normal ticket, and don't issue penalty fares, they also are in charge of the train.

RPI's are able to issue you penalty fares, the running of the train is nothing to do with them.

That was the problem.

The queue at Preston Park the other day was bad and the machine was not working, so he fined me.

Was also doing the rounds on my train back from Gatwick on Friday. Had a ticket that time.
