My brother was the real Beach Boys Fan, but I was fortunate enough to see Brian twice and it was a privilege to be in his presence regardless of his state of mind. That voice, those songs…thank you for the music Brian RIP

The later stuff - all of Pet Sounds, Good Vibrations, God Only Knows, Heroes And Villains etc etc etc. it’s jaw-dropping. Don’t Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder) is…supernatural. I mean wtf. But even that shouldn’t overshadow that earlier run of singles.

I mean try and beat that for a run of immaculate era-creating pop that is IMHO about the equal of the output of Motown or the Beatles in the same era.

A titan has left the building but his stuff is immortal. And now I want a trip to Southern California. Can’t wait for June.

A bit obvious to say perhaps, but God Only Knows is absolutely a Mount Rushmore level song for me.

True genius.
I'm a Beatles over Beach Boys fan 24/7/365, but I'm struggling to say there is a Beatles track that can live with GOK.

Maybe Here, There and Everywhere, in terms of songwriting genius. Maybe.

Saw him at Preston Park which was a poor concert but firstly at Brighton Dome 2005 when the show was brilliant.
A true giant in the pop music, respected by his peers and in the mid sixties the music rivalry between him and the Beatles pushed the development of pop music to a new level. R.I.P.

Sad. But always coming soon following I believe dementia and stroke. Outrageously gifted to envision, as our stateside neighbours say, multiple tracks of music and vocals and actually create what he heard in his head. Just watched the Beach Boys 50 concert. Keyboards, singing and bit of token bass, all of which I thought were beyond him by then. And what a body of work. Truly awesome.

Penny Lane maybe - opinion seems to change over time. But who really cares. If the greatest songwriter of all time can’t mention one of his own songs for modesty’s sake then McCartney bestowing the accolade of his favourite song on God Only Knows will do for me.

"Dear Brian"
A musical tribute by Chris Rainbow. Clearly a labour of love.
You can hear the sound of the Californian waves - literally and metaphorically!

Probably sounds best through headphones...
