Just played Pet Sounds in full on vinyl. Gutted.

Playlist in the car sorted now for the next few days with 79 of my favourite tracks.

There’s way too many you tube links that I’d like to post - some of which are already on this thread thanks - but I’ll go with something I love from his eponymous solo album

So, so sad to hear this. I was a huge fan all through my teens and their surfing driving and the development of their directions in parallel with The Beatles when both were at the top of their game: Rubber Soul followed by the wonderful Pet Sounds, then Revolver, then Good Vibrations, then Sgt Pepper and then the one that 'just wasn't for those times': 'Smile.' Went through as if living the saga of the recording of Good Vibrations and the drip feed of news about what was or was not going on with 'Smile.' Saw The Beach Boys three times in London between 1965-7 I think minus Brian who was in a descent and not touring in those days and with the division with the unaptly named Mike Love emerging. Many at the time who hadn't seen them said they'd never be able to perform 'Good Vibrations' live. Oh, yes, they could! Then, finally, so many years later, Smile emerges and so does Brian with some (not all) truly amazing music on it. RIP Brian for some of the greatest music during perhaps the greatest time there has ever been for music.

I had the privilege of seeing him a few years back at an odd little festival in Preston Park. Quite a coup for the organisers back then. He was old, infirm, couldn't hit the high notes, but I was nonetheless totally star struck. A legend indeed.
I was there too. Hugely grateful I got the chance to see him. An absolute icon and a genius mind behind some of the best music ever written.

RIP

Great run given his drug and mental problems though

One of my favourite bands growing up

Best summer music ever from their catalogue of fabulous songs

God Only Knows: possibly the greatest song ever written, and certainly one that is important to me - and to my lady wife.
Bless you Brian, and thank you for the memories - especially the concert at Brighton Dome a few years ago.

Sad news. I saw him a couple of times, must have been 20 odd years ago. He was frail then. Just gave his Smile album from around the same time a spin.

RIP.
