RIP

Great run given his drug and mental problems though

One of my favourite bands growing up

I’ll add deafness to that list too.
Amazing capabilities to find the sound he wanted to express

Due to my love of hot rods and 60s Americana his music was the soundtrack to my youth, despite my youth coming in the late 1980s and early 90s. Pet Sounds would be on my desert island discs playlist if I was ever on the show.

RIP Brian and thank you for the music.

Quite hard to overstate his impact on life isn’t it. What a guy.

First dance at my wedding was Good Vibrations, played by the Brighton Beach Boys. Was good.

…..despite the cynics on the “over rated albums” thread.

RIP
I called them out. Pet Sounds is my second favourite BB album after Surf's Up...

Apparently according to the twat on R5 he was 'Beach Boys Singer'.....'The melodies speak for themselves'.
But they are a-droolin' now. Can I bare to listen?

Funnily enough though, when I hear of Brian Wilson, my first thought isn’t Pet Sounds, The Beach Boys or his achievements - it’s actually the song about him by The Barenaked Ladies. I should really correct that to give him the respect he deserves.

What did everyone think of Love & Mercy, his biopic?

I had the privilege of seeing him a few years back at an odd little festival in Preston Park. Quite a coup for the organisers back then. He was old, infirm, couldn't hit the high notes, but I was nonetheless totally star struck. A legend indeed.
Have a feeling my folks went to that too, and said the same about the high notes!

An absolute legend, an innovator, a creative genius.

I got into his music only in recent years, but his 'Brian Wilson presents Smile' 2004 album - 38 years in the making - is now cemented into my all-time Top 10 albums.

Still in Brighton
Very sad news. Genius may be only fleeting but this band sure had it for a while, mainly through Brian but also through the other band members aswell. So many great records. I don't actually listen to Pet Sounds much, preferring Surfs Up, Smiley Smile, Sunflower, Endless Harmony and the early singles. The Good Vibrations box set is superb. Was lucky enough to see him on the first SMiLE tour in the early 2000s(?), a wonderful atmosphere at that gig.

Favourite song is probably this one:-

Although Ed Harcourt did a great cover of it .

Looks like quite a few of us have our parents to thank for introducing us to his brilliant music, remember my late father blasting out their hits on his radiogram, RIP Brian.
