It's not right to do this but the family have had a hell of a couple of years dealing with far more serious issues than this.
It’s still wrong. I am very sorry for everything that has happened, but until the facts become clear (this might’ve been going on for years, or weeks) it’s very hard to know. In the same way let’s not jump to conclusions about their staffing arrangements, let’s not assume they are angels who did a little naughty until we know the details.

Nothing to do with Brexit. Of the six found working illegally, one was from Russia, four from Uzbekistan and one from Ivory Coast. None of these countries are in the EU, so they would stoll have been working illegally, Brexit or no Brexit
Due to Brexit, places are finding it harder to employ people. Before Brexit, and the pandemic, finding European staff was pretty easy.

Yes, true, but none of them are Europeans. There are strict rules about employing people from overseas, which have been well publicised for years. Finding it hard to employ people is no excuse.

Hospitality is a sector which has been hit by the quadruple whammy of Brexit, Covid, a government which is utterly inept at business and now the cost of living crises. In the grand scheme of things this isn’t crime of the century. Do I have sympathy for a hospitality business trying to get through, totally yes.

I don't have any sympathy, none. They could always raise wages, that's one way to attract staff and it would also help with the cost of living crisis you referenced. If your business is dependent on cheap ignorant foreign labour to function then its not a desirable business model for the UK in my view and I hope they go bust.

Not empathising with Donatello's but you do realise that businesses, especially those like Donatello's, are heavily affected by the sharp rise in cost of living too? They raise wages they might go bust themselves

Quick question to everyone saying it's their own fault for employing overseas staff.
How many on here would work long shifts or even any shifts finishing at 23:00 for £9.50 an hour?
If you say yes give me a call because I couldn't find any last summer and will be the same next summer.

A small coffee/breakfast cafe near us has seen their electricity/gas bill rise from 1.6k to over 6k, not sure how they survive really. Its always busy there but probably now maybe not even breaking even. Business's need help as well or many will just simply close
