That just sums the bloke up, what a top man.

Now both he and the Albion come out of this with their heads held high.

Big respect to Bob. Knows it's not right and so steps back. Probably been given the assurance he'll still be number 2.

A great decision from a great man. He knew he was too close to the players to crack the whip when necessary and has acknowledged that.

I really hope the new manager, whoever he is, appreciates Bob for the great guy that he is.

I also hope he keeps him on as I think he is a great assistant manager.

Good on yer Bob

I have a feeling that Booker was given the nod that he wouldn't be getting the job before the Brentford game, which would explain his and the teams apathetic (and pathetic) performance perhaps...

booker is the stable link that has allowed the club to remain successful despite the coming and going of the managers recently, who knows how many more managers we will have before we get a new ground, bobs role is vital in getting the team there

Wonderful, mature and correct thing to do. Bob remains a Brighton legend.

Bob Booker:clap2: :clap2:

Without a doubt the best thing Bob could have done. That took strength of character which he clearly has in abundance-shame the players didn't display the same fortitude as and for the man.

Extra big noise for him on Saturday methinks:clap:

My thoughts exactly!

Great man, has shown courage and has done what's best for the team and not himself!

Booker steps aside - official

From the official website:-

Booker Steps Aside

By Tim Dudding

Bob Booker today pulled out of the race to become Albion's next manager. Booker has been in charge of the team since Steve Coppell departed for Reading two weeks ago, but having originally thrown his hat into the ring for the permanent position, has now made the brave decision to step aside.

Booker told seagulls.co.uk, 'After a lot of careful consideration, I have decided that the close working relationship I have built up with the squad of players would be difficult to alter under the current circumstances.

'With this in mind I am stepping out of the managerial race. I still have firm aspirations to one day become a manager in my own right and am convinced I have the ability, but at present, it's just not the right time for me.

'I have enjoyed working with the players over the last couple of weeks, but feel but a fresh pair of eyes will help the club to achieve its promotion ambitions this season.

'I would like to thank the fans for their backing and support over the last two weeks, as well as the chairman, directors and staff at the football club, and let's all move on from here together.'

Booker will remain in temporary charge until Coppell's successor is appointed, and will continue to prepare the squad for Saturday's visit of Stockport County.

Now call me cynical but after losing 4-0 I think his job prospects for the managers position were just about zero anyway. A bit like Andy Cole 'retiring' from England.
