Bocanegra's tackle on Delaney

Fulham defender Carlos Bocanegra has apologised to Mark Delaney for a late tackle that saw the Aston Villa player leave the pitch on a stretcher.
Referee Barry Knight sent off the American for the two-footed challenge during Villa's 2-1 victory and now Bocanegra is keen to clear the air.

"I would like to say to Mark in public that I am sorry," said Bocanegra.

"There was no intent whatsoever, I was going for the ball. I just hope Delaney will heal quickly."

"I spoke to him on the team bus after the game and he was feeling a little better," Bocanegra added.

O'Leary fury at tackle

"His leg was wrapped up but they think he is going to be all right and I hope it works out for him."

Bocanegra has established himself at the heart of the Fulham defence since his move from Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire last month.

The 24-year-old United States international has impressed Fulham manager Chris Coleman, who said no further action would be taken against him.

Personally i think he should recieve a few more games on top of his red card ban. That tackle was the worst i have seen for a good few years. How Coleman can come out and say he didn't intend to do it is ridiculous.

No intent? He jumped through mid air two footed! Don't get me wrong i've nothing against Fulham or the player in question but he should recieve at least an 8 game ban for that, it was pure dirt.

It was a career ender if ever i've seen one. Two feet landing from mid air onto Delaneys shin, it could have RUINED his leg.

Totally agree. It was an horrific "tackle". A long ban would be no more than he deserves. I had to hide behind the sofa when they showed the reply !

Dunno what it is about Coleman (apart from being Welsh, and clearly a cock when it comes to this issue) but something has really started to irritate me about him since he went into management.

He sadi, 'he's not a bad lad' in the interview afterwards and that 'he didn't mean it'.

What a COCKER. He should fine him as much as possible, i wonder if he would have taken action if Delaneys leg had been snapped in half?

Abso-feckin-lutely. How any manager can stand by that challenge is beyond me. Kerry Mayo is what I would describe as "not a bad lad", could you ever imagine him involved in a challenge like that ? never in a million years (fingers crossed he doesn't decapitate someone on Satdi now).

I find CC's general demenour on TV is like a small boy who's had his arse smacked. He never makes eye contact with the interviewer and always makes out Fulham are so hard done by and picked on by the bigger boys.

Turn that challenge around to one of his players being leapt on from a great height and would the response be as forgiving. My arse.
