I fear by next season, he will be on loan to a Club that actually wants to use him.

First of all, Chelsea didn’t want to keep him (which was probably a big disappointment for the lad) then he had problems the whole season he had at Norwich (not entirely of his own making and mentally was probably very unhelpful for his football) and after being offloaded by Chelsea, has struggled to find minutes with Brighton in a side that boasts several of the top midfielders in the PL. Gilmour is in a sort of Catch-22 imo - he needs to play to get more experience yet he is not yet at a level where he is making enough impact in training for RDZ to include him in his starting plans. Technically, especially his passing, he has the strength to succeed and has potential (as we’ve seen in his Scotland appearances ) but personally I think he would benefit going out on loan to a lower level PL club (or to Celtic or a European club perhaps) who will guarantee him a start each week to reenergise his career path.

I don’t think sitting on a bench waiting for our star players to transfer is a good career strategy for Gilmour personally - Brighton are at a stage that whatever MFs we loose in the summer, knowing TB/PB their replacements will be at least as good as them if not better (though that’s hard to believe isn’t it?!) which Gilmour is not at the moment. Also, Gilmour is more of a deep playing C/DMF so unlikely to be seen as a replacement anyway for Mackie who will likely transfer in the summer (and possibly be replaced by Facu) and I can’t see him filling Caicedo‘s boots either tbh.
Firstly Chelsea did want to keep him. It was widely reported at the time that Boehly encouraged him to stay, but young BG knew better and wanted to play under Potter. He was never offloaded. Secondly, he played really well in the time he was on against Liverpool. Finally, he did ok yesterday. He may not have found his ideal role yet, but he looks like he is settling well in to the group.

I was talking about under Tuchel when he was loaned out to Norwich for a year, where I saw him several times - he didn’t really thrive there, struggled to get minutes initially under Farke and didn’t really match the hype that surrounded him so was a disappointment to the club who were already heading for relegation and the fans turned against him.

Yes, Chelsea wanted to extend his contract to 2026 after Norwich but to immediately send him out on loan again, they didn’t want him playing for Chelsea - Gilmour wanted to play for a permanent club so dug his heels in and refused - being on loan wasn’t good enough for him.

5 different managers in the PL? I don’t think he has found the right club yet.

Finally, he did ok yesterday

He was average.

But all of us just voicing unqualified opinions - I like the lad and feel sorry for him so hope he improves- we’ll see where he is by the Summer.
