Does anyone around my age (30) remember the stories regarding the Bluehats, Redhats and Yellowhats? This would be about 20 or so yrs ago (now I do feel old).

There were also the toys which we weren't allowed to touch in the classroom.

I have tried to look for them on the net but can't find THE actual ones. For the people who know OF the true characters, do you remember them? If so, I challenge thee to find them on the net as I can't find bugger-all in relation.

Redhat makes an image in my mind of "TOTALLY CRAP LINUX DISTRO" and nothing else.

However, can anyone else remember Huggy Bear (NOT the Starsky and Hutch) character? Or was he only in Irish kids schoolbooks.

I'm 22, and I do. Now you're making me feel old. Didn't ever see the toys though, just the books...

I recall them at the ripe old age of 20, so they must have had staying power. Either that or our school was so cheap they were still using things the other schools had had 10 years earlier.

Same here. I'm 27 and my friends of the same age from other areas of the counrty haven't a clue what I'm talking about (except one guy from Northampton).

You knew you were doing alright at reading when you got on to books in the series that didn't have the "hat" characters in. The Island was a damn hard read.

My Kids are learning to read with them!
I'm 32 and learnt to read with the same series of books so it's quite nostalgic going through them with them.

Still going strong after all these years!

In an idle moment of 80s nostalgia, I was googling this subject matter on the train today (pretty sure there may not be anything on the web at all about it) and found this NSC page...

I'm 26 and yes I remember them, although I went to school in Oxfordshire rather than Sussex.
